1) Rafael Palmeiro reached 2600 career hits.
After 37 RCAA/.954 OPS and 51 RCAA/.944 OPS the past 2 years, Palmeiro's off to a .591 SLG, .387 OBA, .978 OPS, 31 RCAA start in his first 121 games. He has a .896 career OPS, compared to his league average of .752, and 538 RCAA in 2379 games. Palmeiro's having a top 10 season for OPS above the league average, among 37 year olds. But, the great Bonds is of course overshadowing him-- Code:
Knocked out of the top 10 by Bonds and Palmeiro--Willie Mays (+.194, 1968), Stan Musial (+.191, 1958) 2) The Cubs traded P Jeff Fassero to the Cardinals for 2 players to be named later and cash. Fassero's having his 2nd double digit negative RSAA in the past 4 years, with a 6.18 ERA/-12 RSAA in 57 games. He has a 3.94 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.37, and 88 RSAA in 543 games. 3) The Whitesox placed INF Tony Graffanino on the 15 day DL and called up INF D'Angelo Jimenez. Graffanino had to leave yesterday's game, due to a knee injury. After -5 RCAA/.720 OPS and 1 RCAA/.777 OPS the past 2 years, he's off to a .428 SLG, .329 OBA, .757 OPS, 0 RCAA start in his first 70 games. Graffanino has a .721 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and -26 RCAA in 484 games. Bowles, a 25 year old rookie who also pitched in 2 games last year, is off to a 3.38 ERA/1 RSAA start in 6 games. Prokopec has an elbow injury. After a 4.88 ERA/-15 RSAA as a 23 year old rookie with the 2001 Dodgers (he also pitched in 5 games in 2000), he's off to a 6.78 ERA/-18 RSAA start in his first 22 games (12 starts). Swann's 1 for 12 in 13 games. 5) The Orioles placed OF Gary Matthews Jr. on the 15 day DL and called up P Sean Douglass. Matthews has tendonitis in his right wrist. Douglass, a 23 year rookie who also made 4 starts last year, is off to a 5.55 ERA/-3 RSAA start in his first 8 games (4 starts). 6) The Cubs activated P Juan Cruz from the DL and sent P Steve Smyth to the minors. Cruz, a 23 year old touted rookie who also made 8 starts last year, is off to a 4.35 ERA/-3 RSAA in 33 games (9 starts). Smyth had a 9.98 ERA/-10 RSAA in his first 4 major league starts. 7) Diamondbacks SS Tony Womack was given a routine day off. After -23 RCAA/.692 OPS and -23 RCAA/.652 OPS the past 2 years, Womack's off to a .347 SLG, .318 OBA, .665 OPS, -21 RCAA start in his first 123 games. He has a .683 career OPS, compared to his league average of .778, and -92 RCAA in 889 games. 8) The Tigers sent P Fernando Rodney to the minors, will call up P Jose Paniagua today and moved P Julio Santana from the 15 to the 60 day DL. Rodney, a 25 year old rookie, is off to a 8.76 ERA/-6 RSAA start in his first 13 major league games. After 3.47 ERA/9 RSAA and 4.36 ERA/-1 RSAA the past 2 years, Paniagua's off to a 6.19 ERA/-8 RSAA start in his first 35 games. He has a 4.41 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.63, and 4 RSAA in 263 games. 9) Twins CF Torii Hunter was given a routine day off yesterday. After -19 RCAA/.726 OPS and -5 RCAA/.784 OPS the past 2 years, Hunter's off to a .530 SLG, .342 OBA, .873 OPS, 18 RCAA start in his first 123 games. He has a .775 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and -30 RCAA in 512 games. 10) The Angels called up P Mickey Callaway and sent P Mark Lukasiewicz to the minors. Callaway started yesterday. It was the 27 year old's 8th major league game. After a 6.03 ERA/-3 RSAA in 24 games as a 28 year old rookie in 2001, Lukasiewicz is off to a 3.48 ERA/1 RSAA start in his first 14 games. 11) The Reds activated P Scott Sullivan from the DL and sent P Luke Hudson to the minors. After 3.47 ERA/18 RSAA and 3.31 ERA/12 RSAA the past 2 years, Sullivan's off to a 5.17 ERA/-6 RSAA start in his first 61 games. He has a 3.81 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.37, and 47 RSAA in 434 games. Hudson's off to a 4.50 ERA/0 RSAA start in his first 3 major league games. 12) The Padres called up P Clay Condrey and sent P Tom Davey to the minors. After 0.71 ERA/5 RSAA (11 games) and 4.50 ERA/-2 RSAA the past 2 years, Davey's off to a 5.57 ERA/-4 RSAA start in his first 19 games. He has a 4.41 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.60, and 1 RSAA in 114 games. Condrey, 26, came into the year with a 4.23 ERA in 4 minor league seasons, including a 4.75 ERA in AAA in 2001, and is off to a 3.50 ERA start in AAA this year. 13) The Brewers called up P Andrew Lorraine and sent P Matt Childers to the minors. Lorraine had a 6.20 ERA/-27 RSAA in 54 games with 6 teams from 1994-2000. Childers was off to a 12.00 ERA/-8 RSAA in his first 8 major league games. 14) Randy Johnson lowered his ERA to 2.44 by pitching a complete game shutout with 16 SO. Johnson can join Cy Young (7 times) and Eddie Plank (4 times) as the only pitchers with at least 3 years with an ERA 2.50 or under at the age of 35 or older.
