1) Larry Walker set the major league record for most games by a player born in Canada.
Here's the top 10-- 1 Larry Walker 1532 2 Terry Puhl 1531 3 Jack Graney 1402 4 Jeff Heath 1383 5 George Gibson 1213 6 Frank O'Rourke 1131 7 Pop Smith 1093 8 Tip O'Neill 1054 9 Bill Phillips 1038 10 Arthur Irwin 1010 2) Dodgers P Kazuhisa Ishii tied the LA record with 10 SO in his major league debut, tying the mark set by Pedro Astacio, on July 3, 1992. The all time team record is 15, by Karl Spooner, on September 22, 1954. Spooner shares the major league record with Elmer Myers, J.R. Richard and Steve Woodard. 3) The BlueJays called up P Scott Cooper. Cooper takes Chris Carpenter's spot on the roster and will start today. 4) Yankees MGR Joe Torre says he expects Ramiro Mendoza to be activated from the DL before tomorrow's game. Jay Tessmer is the frontrunner to lose his roster spot. 5) The Giants activated 2B Jeff Kent from the DL and placed 1B Damon Minor on the 15 day DL. Minor has tendinitis in his left knee. Let me take a look here at my baseball medical dictionary. Let's see, under tendinitis in the left knee, it says--A condition players are prone to they had just impressed the manager in spring training, but are out of options and the team doesn't want to expose him to waivers when his roster spot is needed for someone else. The cure consists of waiting 15 days to see if another spot on the roster opens up. While the timing is suspicious, the Giants say Minor's had the problem since spring training. Maybe it's true, maybe it's just one of those standard denials. 6) Mike Piazza left yesterday's game, due to a bruised left knee after a collision at the plate with Chipper Jones, and is day to day. Meanwhile, Mo Vaughn missed yesterday's game, due to swelling in his right hand. Vaughn was hit by a pitch on Thursday and Mets MGR Bobby Valentine says he probably shouldn't have been in Friday's lineup. Vaughn is expected to return today, while Valentine says Piazza probably won't. 7) Brewers CF Alex Sanchez was hit in the face by a ball during batting practice. He was bleeding from his nose and said he was still available for the game. He didn't need to be scratched from the lineup, since, although he has won a starting job, he wasn't in it to begin with. 8) The Angels moved P Steve Green from the 15 to the 60 day DL. Green is recovering from Tommy John surgery. 9) The Rangers placed P Rich Rodriguez on the 15 day DL and called up OF Kevin Mench. Rodriguez has a blister on his index finger and tests showed he also has a circulation problem. The team was originally reluctant to put him on the DL, since John Rocker is the only LHP in the pen. 10) The Twins placed 2B Luis Rivas and RF Brian Buchanan on the 15 day DL and called up OF Bobby Kielty and C Matt LeCroy. Rivas has a bruised left forearm. MGR Ron Gardenhire says Denny Hocking, Jay Canizaro and Warren Morris will share the 2B job in his absence. Buchanan has a sore back. Dustin Mohr and Kielty are expected to take his place in RF. Both him and Rivas are eligible to return from the DL on April 19. 11) Expos 1B Lee Stevens was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to a sore right calf. 12) BlueJays INF Dave Berg had to leave yesterday's game, due to a sprained left ankle and is day to day. 13) The Whitesox were hoping Jim Parque would regain his velocity in AAA, but the radar gun said he topped out at 85 MPH on Thursday. 14) The Cardinals placed P Woody Williams on the 15 day DL and called up P Mike Crudale. Williams has a strained muscle in his left side. I expect Crudale to be sent down as soon as Williams's spot in the rotation comes up again, with Bud Smith getting the call. 15) The Rangers will replace rookie 3B Hank Blalock with Herbert Perry today, when they face LHP Jarrod Washburn. Meanwhile, with Barry Zito and Mark Mulder scheduled to pitch against them this week and Jamie Moyer and John Halama pitching this week, Perry will get a good amount of playing time in the next week.

1) According to reports from Detroit, Tigers MGR Phil Garner and/or GM Randy Smith's jobs are already in danger.
2) The Tigers are expected to activate Dean Palmer from the DL today and will place INF Damian Jackson on it. Jackson tore a nail on the middle finger of his right hand. Meanwhile, MGR Phil Garner says another roster move will also be made, while it's "possible" that Jose Macias would move from CF to 2B, due to 2B Damian Easley's sore left side. If that happens, Andres Torres is expected to be called up, to take Macias's place in CF. 3) A's 2B Randy Velarde said his hand injury was 100%, but had additional tests performed and will go back to Oakland to see a hand specialist. He may have to go on the DL. 4) The Orioles will have to make a roster move before today's game, to activate starting pitcher Calvin Maduro from the DL. 5) Devil Rays owner Vince Naimoli and MLB lawyer Bob DuPuy deny a report, from an anonymous source in the NY Daily News, that MLB had to guarantee a $20 million loan and others owners are "livid" because Naimoli deceived them into believing the team was on solid financial grounds and then needed the loan to make ends meet. According to the St. Petersburg Times, "Naimoli and DuPuy said the report was wrong, that the loan has been in place for about a year, that MLB in no way guaranteed it, and that virtually all teams have similar arrangements, allowing them to borrow when revenues are down, such as during long road trips, and pay back when revenues are strong." 6) While Expos GM Omar Minaya said newly acquired Bruce Chen would move into their rotation, MGR Frank Robinson says he's going to start Chen out in the pen.
