How much is a minor league deal worth? Taking a flyer on someone can't hurt.....as long as they don't sign him to the big league roster for $600k and have him rip a hammy the same afternoon. (See, Indians, Juan Gonzales, 2005)

Hey Lee, RCAA is exclusively offensive in nature, right?

I ask because I noticed Paul Balir being -40 for his career, which astounded me. I remember him being much better than that. Did he hang on way too long because of his superior defense? Or was he always no-hit, all-field?

Given his reputation as a great CF, how does he translate overall? An average player or below average?

BTW, nice move by the D-Rays to pick up Branyan on a minor league deal. I thought someone like the Orioles should have gone after him. They need a power bat in their lineup, and Branyan could have played some 3B, moving Mora to LF.

If Sierra rip his hamstring on his first PA, that would make him a more valuable player than if he played the season for them.

Taking a flyer on a player whose track record guarantees that he will spend the season outmaking and costing you runs hurts.

RCAA is exclusive offense.

Blair had an OBA 21 points below the league average. He was not a good offensive player.

I don't think it's a bad deal. He can help coming off the bench. This team needs pinch-hitters badly. I thought he did a decent job with the Yankees in the last few years. I could see Sierra do with the Twins what Julio Franco did with the Braves.
