1) Brewers LF Geoff Jenkins had to leave yesterday's game, due to a fractured left thumb, and could be out for the rest of the season.

After -1 RCAA/.808 OPS and -3 RCAA/.764 OPS seasons, Jenkins has a .538 SLG, .375 OBA, .913 OPS, 26 RCAA in 124 games. He has a .865 career OPS, compared to his league average of .781, and 66 RCAA in 650 games.

2) Marlins C Ramon Castro was arrested on sexual assault charges.

After a -1 RCAA/.777 OPS in 2002, Castro is hitting .533 SLG, .347 OBA, .880 OPS, 3 RCAA in his first 33 games (49 PA). He has a .692 career OPS, compared to his league average of .784, and -11 RCAA in 168 games.

3) The Braves called up P Joey Dawley and placed P Kevin Gryboski on the 15 day DL.

Dawley has a 17.18 ERA/-11 RSAA in 6 career games, including a 18.00 ERA/-11 RSAA in 5 games in 2003.

Gryboski has shoulder tendinitis and will have a MRI today to determine if he has a torn rotator cuff. After starting his career with a 3.48 ERA/4 RSAA in 57 games as a 28 year old rookie in 2002, Gryboski has a 4.10 ERA/1 RSAA in 61 games in 2003.

4) The Padres traded INF Lou Merloni to the Redsox for minor league P Rene Miniel. To make room for Merloni on the 40 man roster, the Redsox moved P Robert Person from the 15 to the 60 day DL and they still need to make a move to get him on the 25 man roster.

After -6 RCAA/.703 OPS and -3 RCAA/.724 OPS seasons with the Redsox, the Padres claimed Merloni off waivers in spring training. He had a .364 SLG, .362 OBA, .726, -1 RCAA in 65 games with them and has a .716 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and -26 RCAA in 323 games.

5) The Padres will activate INF Keith Lockhart from the DL today.

After -13 RCAA/.593 OPS and -19 RCAA/.613 OPS seasons with the Braves, Lockhart is hitting .437 SLG, .350 OBA, .787 OPS, 1 RCAA in his first 53 games. He has a .706 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and -63 RCAA in 970 games.

6) The Expos called up P Vic Darensbourg, sent P Eric Knotts to the minors and removed Knotts and minor league P Anthony Ferrari from the 40 man roster.

Darensbourg has a 4.96 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.38, and -22 RSAA in 274 games, including a 0.00 ERA/1 RSAA in 3 games with the 2003 Rockies.

Knotts has a 4.92 ERA/-8 RSAA in 45 career games, including a 5.04 ERA/-6 RSAA in 13 starts (15 games) in 2003.

7) The Reds sent C Corky Miller to the minors, when they activated 3B Russell Branyan from the DL.

Miller will be a September callup. He has -7 RCAA/.719 OPS in 60 career games, including 2 for 8, with a BB, in 4 games in 2003.

8) Giants P Dustin Hermanson was scratched from yesterday's start, due to back spasms or a strained muscle inside his rib cage, and is questionable for his next start.

After 4.45 ERA/-3 RSAA (33 G/GS) and 7.77 ERA/-8 RSAA (12 G/1 GS) seasons, Hermanson has a 4.10 ERA/0 RSAA in his first 27 games (4 starts). After starting the year with the Cardinals, he has a 2.35 ERA/5 RSAA in 4 starts with the Giants. Hermanson has a 4.29 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.40, and 8 RSAA in 242 games.

9) Orioles DH-1B David Segui will have season ending surgery on his left wrist next week.

Segui's been on the DL since July 26. After playing in just 108 games in 2001-02, he hit .384 SLG, .341 OBA, .725 OPS, -3 RCAA in 67 games. Segui has a .801 career OPS, compared to his league average of .764, and 70 RCAA in 1437 games.

10) The Yankees placed RF David Dellucci on the 15 day DL and called up P Jeff Weaver.

Dellucci sprained his left ankle on Wednesday.

Weaver had just been sent down on Tuesday.

11) Yankees P David Wells is in danger of losing his spot in the rotation, to Weaver, for at least his start on Monday. The Yankees are upset over Wells not throwing between starts, thinks he has a bad back (something Wells denies) and he's clearly pitched poorly recently.

After 4.47 ERA/2 RSAA and 3.75 ERA/14 RSAA seasons, Wells has a 4.37 ERA/-1 RSAA in his first 24 starts (25 games). He has a 4.07 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.51, and 124 RSAA in 551 games.

12) Whitesox P Neal Cotts may have lost his 5th starter's job to Dan Wright. But, since the team doesn't need a 5th starter until the 2nd week of September, a decision doesn't need to be made now.

Cotts has a 8.10 ERA/-5 RSAA in his first 4 career starts and failed to make it out of the 1st inning against the Yankees yesterday.

After starting his career with 5.70 ERA/-8 RSAA and 5.18 ERA/-13 RSAA seasons, Wright has a 5.54 ERA/-9 RSAA in his first 17 games (12 starts).

13) The Pirates will activate P Salomon Torres from the DL today.

Torres will start tonight. In his first year with more than 5 games since 1997, Torres has a 4.43 ERA/-5 RSAA in his first 35 games (10 starts). He has a 5.20 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.39, and -42 RSAA in 108 games.

14) Rockies C Bobby Estalella will have season ending surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow.

Estalella's been on the DL since August 15.

15) Astros 2B Jeff Kent was scratched from yesterday's game, to be with his wife when she had their 4th child.

After 34 RCAA/.877 OPS and 46 RCAA/.933 OPS seasons with the Giants, Kent is hitting .510 SLG, .343 OBA, .853 OPS, 8 RCAA in his first 104 games. He has a .855 career OPS, compared to his league average of .769, and 220 RCAA in 1606 games.

16) According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Twins are interested in signing P Steve Sparks.
