6) Jim Thome passed George Foster into 67th place on the all time HR list, with 349.

Correction from yesterday--The story that Tom Glavine had never missed a start before in his career proved to be inaccurate.

1) According to BP's Will Carroll, the Cardinals are probably going to activate P Jason Isringhausen from the DL today.

After 2.65 ERA/13 RSAA and 2.48 ERA/10 RSAA seasons, Isringhausen's been on the DL all year. He has a 3.94 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.38, and 11 RSAA in 271 games.

2) The Padres activated P Jay Witasick from the DL, placed INF Lou Merloni on the 15 day DL and activated Ps Brandon Villafuerte and Kevin Walker from the DL and sent them to the minors.

After 3.30 ERA/8 RSAA and 2.37 ERA/11 RSAA seasons, Witasick has spent the whole season, up to this point, on the DL. He has a 4.92 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.67, and -20 RSAA in 199 games.

Villafuerte has a 4.29 ERA/-3 RSAA in 62 career games, including a 4.60 ERA/-2 RSAA in 22 games in 2003. Walker has a 4.15 ERA/-1 RSAA in 97 career games.

3) The Twins placed INF Chris Gomez on the 15 day DL and called up 1B Justin Morneau.

Gomez suffered a right knee injury on Friday. After -7 RCAA/.700 OPS and -9 RCAA/.715 OPS seasons, he's off to a .429 SLG, .333 OBA, .762 OPS, -2 RCAA start in his first 23 games. Gomez has a .684 career OPS, compared to his league average of .769, and -115 RCAA in 1045 games.

Morneau, 22, was given an A- grade by John Sickels (12th best hitting prospect in baseball) and was ranked as the Twins #2 prospect by Baseball America (14th best prospect in baseball). He came into the year with a .893 OPS (.386 OBA, .507 SLG) in 4 minor league seasons, including a .830 OPS (.356 OBA, .474 SLG) in AA in 2002. In 2003, he had a 1.004 OPS (.384 OBA, .620 SLG) in 20 games in AA and a 1.000 OPS (.377 OBA, .623 SLG) start in 37 games in AAA.

4) The Yankees are expected to place P Jose Contreras on the 15 day DL today.

Contreras has an ailing shoulder. He has a 4.62 ERA/-2 RSAA in his 10 major league games (2 starts).

5) Yankees owner George Steinbrenner is in town and held a front office meeting in Manhattan yesterday. P Juan Acevedo is rumored to be on the brink of being released, with utilityman Charles Gipson also in danger of being dropped. Meanwhile, there are rumors that a trade for Rangers P Ugueth Urbina is close.

6) The Whitesox claimed C Michael Rivera off waivers from the Padres, sent him and CF Joe Borchard to the minors and are expected to call up CF Aaron Rowand.

Rivera has a .570 OPS/-15 RCAA in 62 career games, including a .245 SLG, .241 OBA, .487 OPS, -7 RCAA in 19 games in 2003.

Borchard, a highly rated prospect, has a .562 OPS/-8 RCAA in his first 32 major league games, including a .265 SLG, .246 OBA, .511 OPS, -6 RCAA in 16 games in 2003.

After starting his career with 4 RCAA/.816 OPS (63 G) and -13 RCAA/.692 OPS (126 G) seasons, Rowand's off to a .167 SLG, .200 OBA, .367 OPS, -8 RCAA start in his first 23 games.

7) The Redsox named Dave Wallace as interim pitching coach, during Tony Cloninger's leave of absence. Wallace had been working in the Dodgers front office.

8) Mets P Pedro Astacio met with Dr. Lewis Yocum, who confirmed that surgery is needed on his torn labrum. He'll have the surgery today and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Astacio's 7.36 ERA/-13 RSAA in 7 starts is his 2nd consecutive double digit negative RSAA and his 3rd in the past 6 years. He has a 4.58 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.26, and 11 RSAA in 346 games (his years in Coors accounts for the ERA/RSAA strangeness).

9) The Marlins released minor league P Marc Wilkins.

Wilkins had a 4.28 ERA/4 RSAA in 245 games with the 1996-2001 Pirates.

10) The BlueJays signed OF Ryan Thompson to a minor league contract.

Thompson has a .734 OPS/-35 RSAA in 416 career games with 7 teams since 1992 (excluding 1997-98).

11) The Devil Rays released minor league 2B Jay Canizaro.

Canizaro had -30 RCAA/.673 OPS in 195 games with the 1996/99 Giants and 2000/02 Twins.
