1) The Pirates placed 2B Pokey Reese on the 60 day DL.

Reese suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb on Tuesday and is expected to miss 3-4 months. After 3 consecutive years with a double digit negative RCAA, Reese is off to a .262 SLG, .271 OBA, .533 OPS, -7 RCAA start in his first 37 games. He has a .667 career OPS, compared to his league average of .781, and -104 RCAA in 760 games.

Reese's OPS vs. the league average is the 4th worst among active players with 2500+ PA--

2) The Yankees activated P Antonio Osuna from the DL and sent P Randy Choate to the minors.

After 20.77 ERA/-8 RSAA (just 4 G) and 3.86 ERA/6 RSAA seasons, Osuna's off to a 1.59 ERA/3 RSAA start in his first 9 games. He has a 3.51 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.34, and 24 RSAA in 337 games.

3) On Tuesday, Diamondbacks LF Luis Gonzalez reached 400 career 2B.

After 91 RCAA/1.117 OPS and 30 RCAA/.896 OPS seasons, Gonzalez is off to a .596 SLG, .407 OBA, 1.003 OPS, 9 RCAA start in his first 38 games. he has a .855 career OPS, compared to his league average of .764, and 247 RCAA in 1785 games.

4) Mariners 2B Bret Boone was given a routine day off yesterday.

After 53 RCAA/.950 OPS and 17 RCAA/.801 OPS seasons, Boone's off to a .500 SLG, .376 OBA, .876 OPS, 7 RCAA start in his first 38 games. He has a .765 career OPS, compared to his league average of .768, and -23 RCAA in 1423 games.

5) The Mets placed SS Rey Sanchez on the 15 day DL, retroactive to May 10, and called up INF Marco Scutaro.

After -34 RCAA/.637 OPS and -11 RCAA/.662 OPS seasons, Sanchez is off to a .237 SLG, .235 OBA, .472 OPS, -10 RCAA start in his first 30 games. He has a .645 career OPS, compared to his league average of .766, and -214 RCAA in 1304 games.

Scutaro had a .577 OPS/-4 RCAA in 27 games as a 26 year old rookie in 2002.

6) The Phillies placed INF Tyler Houston on the 15 day DL and called up INF Nick Pinto.

Houston has a fractured knuckle on the middle finger of his left hand, will have surgery and is expected to miss 6 weeks.

After 4 RCAA/.815 OPS and 0 RCAA/.751 OPS seasons, Houston's off to a .472 SLG, .368 OBA, .841 OPS, 1 RCAA start in his first 23 games (38 PA). He has a .738 career OPS, compared to his league average of .777, and -47 RCAA in 669 games.

Pinto has a .382 OPS/-3 RCAA in 22 career games, including a .237 OPS/-2 RCAA in 9 games (13 PA) in 2003.

7) Reds OF Jose Guillen is not happy about going to the bench, with Ken Griffey Jr.'s return from the DL, and says he wants to be traded.

Guillen's never had a season with a positive RCAA and is off to a .622 SLG, .362 OBA, .984 OPS, 7 RCAA start in 32 games. He has a .715 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and -79 RCAA in 646 games.

8) Dave DeBusschere died of a heart attack yesterday, at the age of 62.

DeBusschere had a 2.91 career ERA, compared to his league average of 3.69, and 9 RSAA in 36 games with the 1962-63 Whitesox.

9) The Devil Rays sent 3B Chris Truby and OF George Lombard to the minors, after they cleared waivers. Both players had already been removed from the 25 and 40 man rosters when they were designated for assignment and both of them accepted their minor league assignments.

10) The Devil Rays are reportedly on the brink of signing Julio Lugo, with the Houston Chronicle reporting that the sides have agreed to a tentative deal.

11) The Mariners claimed minor league OF Cristian Guerrero off waivers from the Brewers.

12) The Cardinals signed INF Marty Malloy to a minor league contract.

Malloy had a .437 OPS/-5 RCAA in 35 games with the 1998 Braves and 2002 Marlins.

13) The Devil Rays released minor league P Kevin McGlinchy.

McGlinchy had a 2.75 ERA/13 RSAA in 74 games with the 1999-2000 Braves and has his career ruined by shoulder problems.

14) BlueJays 3B Eric Hinske says he a case of tendinitis. But, after hearing Hinske explain his injury, BP's Will Carroll will be reporting that sound right and is could be carpal tunnel syndrome, or something more similar to that than tendinitis.

After having 25 RCAA/.845 OPS as a 24 year old rookie in 2002, Hinske's hitting .386 SLG, .306 OBA, .692 OPS, -8 RCAA in his first 36 games.
