1) The Mets announced that a decision has been made to move Mike Piazza to 1B, some time in the near future. But, even then, he'll probably do some catching.

Meanwhile, the New York press is now making the fact that the announcement was first made to the press, rather than to Piazza, the biggest story in the history of the world.

After 34 RCAA/.957 OPS and 17 RCAA/.903 OPS seasons, Piazza's off to a .494 SLG, .396 OBA, .890 OPS, 4 RCAA start in his first 24 games. He has a .963 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and 430 RCAA in 1417 games.

2) The Marlins placed P Josh Beckett on the 15 day DL, sent OF Gerald Williams to the minors and called up Ps Dontrelle Willis and Blaine Neal.

In what could be the best news the team's received all year, Beckett was diagnosed with only having a mildly sprained elbow, with a MRI showing not revealing any ligament damage. He's expected to miss at least 3 weeks. Meanwhile, Beckett's admitted that his arm's been bothering him since the middle of April, but he lied to the trainers and coaching staff.

Williams was removed from the 40 man roster. He's off to a .042 SLG, .115 OBA, .157 OPS, -5 RCAA start in his first 19 games (28 PA) and has a .711 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and -97 RCAA in 1064 games.

Willis, 21, was given a B+ grade by John Sickels (35th best pitching prospect in baseball) and was ranked as the Marlins #4 prospect by Baseball America. He has a 1.49 ERA in his first 6 starts in AA in 2003. It's the first time in his career that he's pitched above Hi-A ball.

After having a 2.73 ERA/5 RSAA in 32 games as a 24 year old rookie in 2002 (he also pitched in 4 games in 2001), Neal has a 8.38 ERA/-5 RSAA in 9 major league games this season.

3) The Indians placed OF Karim Garcia on the 15 day DL, when they activated CF Milton Bradley from the DL.

Garcia has a strained left wrist. After having 3 RCAA/.889 OPS in 2002, his first season with more than 20 games since 1999, Garcia's off to a .366 SLG, .238 OBA, .603 OPS, -8 RCAA start in his first 24 games. He has a .701 career OPS, compared to his league average of .770, and -44 RCAA in 351 games.

4) The Yankees signed P Rolando Arrojo to a minor league contract.

Arrojo has a 4.55 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.68, and 31 RSAA in 158 games.

5) Devil Rays LF Carl Crawford was scratched from yesterday's lineup, due to a stomach virus.

After having a .661 OPS/-9 RCAA as a 20 year old rookie in 2002, Crawford's off to a .295 SLG, .260 OBA, .555 OPS, -12 RCAA start in his first 32 games.

6) BlueJays LF Shannon Stewart reached 1000 career hits.

After 20 RCAA/.834 OPS and 19 RCAA/.813 OPS seasons, Stewart's off to a .449 SLG, .374 OBA, .816 OPS start in his first 35 games. He has a .816 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and 83 RCAA in 819 games.

7) The Angels sent OF Gary Johnson to the minors and will activate P Aaron Sele from the DL today.

After 3.60 ERA/14 RSAA and 4.89 ERA/-10 RSAA seasons, Sele will make his 2003 debut tonight. He has a 4.39 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.69, and 61 RSAA in 268 games.

Johnson went 3 for 8, with a BB and a 2B, in his first 5 major league games.

8) The Mariners activated P Kazuhiro Sasaki from the DL and sent P Rafael Soriano to the minors.

After 3.24 ERA/7 RSAA and 2.52 ERA/11 RSAA seasons, Sasaki's off to a 8.10 ERA/-4 RSAA in his first 11 games. He has a 3.24 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.62, and 23 RSAA in 204 games.

Soriano, who's ranked by BA and Sickels as the Mariners #1 prospect, had a 2.25 ERA/1 RSAA in 3 games, after having a 4.56 ERA/-2 RSAA in his first 10 major league games (8 starts) in 2002.

9) The Twins are expected to activate INF Denny Hocking from the DL today.

After -14 RCAA/.654 OPS and -10 RCAA/.633 OPS seasons, Hocking's off to a .200 SLG, .188 OBA, .388 OPS, -3 RCAA start in his first 10 games (just 19 PA). He has a .660 career OPS, compared to his league average of .776, and -103 RCAA in 803 games.

10) The Redsox signed P Rudy Seanez to a minor league contract and released minor league P Hansel Izquierdo.

Seanez was released from his minor league contract with the Rangers last weekend.

Izquierdo had a 4.55 ERA/-2 RSAA in 20 games with the 2002 Marlins.

11) The Devil Rays will activate P Jim Parque from the DL today and are expected to place P Steve Parris on the DL.

Despite pitching a total of just 13 games in 2001-02, Parque managed to have double digit negative RSAA's in both of them. He's off to a 17.55 ERA/-9 RSAA start in his first 2 starts in 2003 and has a 5.36 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.80, and -28 RSAA in 100 games.

12) The Phillies sent P Brandon Duckworth to the minors and called up P Eric Junge.

After starting his career with 3.52 ERA/6 RSAA (just 11 G/GS) and 5.41 ERA/-30 RSAA seasons, Duckworth's off to a 6.46 ERA/-4 RSAA start in his first 4 starts.

After having a 1.42 ERA/3 RSAA in his first 4 major league games in 2002, Junge's off to a 2.70 ERA/1 RSAA start in his first 5 games in 2003.

13) Padres 1B Ryan Klesko was out of yesterday's lineup, due to a foot injury, and is day to day.

After 42 RCAA/.923 OPS and 49 RCAA/.925 OPS seasons, Klesko's off to a .561 SLG, .392 OBA, .953 OPS, 12 RCAA start in his first 30 games. He has a .901 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and 246 RCAA in 1259 games.

14) The Reds signed P John Bale and SS-OF Santiago Perez to minor league contracts.

Bale had a 5.01 ERA/-3 RSAA in 17 games with the 1999-2000 BlueJays and 2001 Orioles.

Perez had a .519 OPS/-10 RCAA in 67 games with the 2000 Brewers and 2001 Padres.

15) According to BP's Will Carroll, Yankees 1B Jason Giambi is now admitting that his knee is bothering him.

After 103 RCAA/1.137 OPS and 75 RCAA/1.034 OPS seasons, Giambi's off to a .386 SLG, .342 OBA, .728 OPS, 2 RCAA start in his first 34 games. He has a .960 career OPS, compared to his league average of .776, and 396 RCAA in 1142 games.
