Default Where will Glavine pitch?

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1107/1457282.html

The Mets are looking to talk to Glavine AND Leo Mazzone! Glavine has rejected a 1-yr, $9 million offer from Atlanta (which I think included 4 option years). There has also been rumors of the Phillies being very interested...

I don't know where he will end up, but it won't be Atlanta. I would wager he feels "insulted" over their offer. Some will else wil be left with the job of grossly overpaying an aging player.

he was insulted right? so the best revenge would be to go to Philadelphia and beat the Braves.

I think that if the Braves keep one or the other out of Maddux and Glavine they will keep Glavine. I think Glavine ends up back in Atlanta where he finished out his HOF career and gets 300 wins in a Braves uniform.

I think he'll probably end up in Atlanta, one uniform, 300 wins, that's a legacy matched by very few.

I wish $ were not an issue because he'd be a perfect match for the City by the Bay. A crafty lefty in a pitcher's ballpark. He could lob it on the outside corner all day and watch flyballs die in the outfield. Oh right that happens at the Ted now.

I still think he'll be back in Atlanta. He may not have liked the initial contract but he'll be back.

I agree. I also think that the Braves would be wiser to sign Glavine, rather than Maddux, if they can't keep both. While Maddux has been the greater pitcher at his peak, my gut tells me that Glavine is healthier, and has more in the tank.

You summed up the reason I think the Braves will work harder to sign Glavine, and the reason if I ran a team I'd go for Glavine over Maddux (I also expect Glavine to be cheaper, at least for Atlanta).

I like to see star players play their entire career for one team. I probably just want to see this happen for Tom.

Is Mazzone really interested in leaving Atlanta?

He may be, but it will take more money. Will he still be as good without the great pitchers the Braves have had?

Mazzone is staying, according to Lee's ATM report. I suspect that makes it no worse than 50-50 that BOTH Glavine and Maddux will stay. I think the only way Maddux leaves is if he gets a good offer from the Diamondbacks, close to home. Glavine might go to Philly, if they throw outlandish amounts of money at him.

I saw that article in yesterday's NY Post and my first thought was, "Here we go again - another tease..." the Mets (or the NY press) talking about a player/coach/manager they are just not going to get. Even with his playoff woes, I'd love to see Glavine take the mound every 5th game for the Mets - it's a joy to watch the guy pitch. That said, there's no way he''ll end up at Shea. My guess is now that Mazzone has signed, he'll be back in ATL.

Glavine will go back to the Braves, but I'm not sure Maddux will return. Pads or DBacks, maybe.

Wherever Glavine ends up (I suspect Philly), his most significant contribution will come from his passing on his experience and knowledge to other pitchers, rather than from his arm. He's about done as a pitcher.
