there is probably not a good way to word it. Maybe one way to approach this question is defining having a seperate definition for the greatest and the best. Jim Brown was the greatest running back of all time. Barry was the best. Jim Brown revolutionized the position. He forced teams into new defences. He broke every record imaginable. He did this while playing in a league of slow footed defensive guys. I would be willing to bet there was not a single defensive player in the league that could outrun Brown. Today we know this is no where near the case. Defensive players are as quick as offensive players, some quicker..... if you don't believe me watch the replay from Sunday nights game where Daryl Green picked up what he thought was a fumble and exploded down the sideline like the other team was standing still (did anyone see that?) Case and point, Brown has had a greater impact on the game, but I feel Barry's skills surpass those of Browns. another thing to note is I don't see as much a discrepency in the players today and the players 20 years ago, as there appears to be with players from 1980 to 1960. Maybe an old timer can chime in on this and give us a first hand account.......

We've gone awfully far afield here. Time to shut this down and start anew.
