Jim Thome has now reached base in 47 consecutive games, and this got me to wondering--who has the longest such streak? I'd guess it was Joe Dimaggio, who IIRC was on base in at least 73 consecutive games.
I don't see this info in any of the stat books. I'll turn it over to the experts.

There's not really an official record, since it wasn't kept as a stat for the first part of the 20th century, and nobody has had the inclination to dig through all those old boxscores.
Since they started actually tracking these things, Dimaggio's 73-gamer is generally accepted as the record. |

Didn't Tony Phillips have a streak of 101 games where he reached safely (hit, walk, or HBP)?

I've seen something that does say that he has something like that. Tony Phillips for Cooperstown. (j/k)Never the less, that's freakish no matter how he did it. |

I think that means that he reached base in 100 of 101....
On WTAM-1100 (Indians Flagship Radio Stationin Cleveland) this morning, they said they did some research, and the longest they have found so far when looking back was 84 by Ted Williams. I don't remember the year - was in my car. |
