Question Juan Uribe - Why Bother?

In 269 road PA so far this year, his OPS is .521.

Yes, his OPS.

Since the ASG, his OPS (road and Coors!) is .544.

Shoot, he's not even making contact - 110 Ks in 505 ABs.

He can't hit, he can't hit, he can't hit...........batter.

Is there a reason why the Rocks keep trotting him out there?

It's obviously part of their marketing campaign to attract free agent pitchers -- "Look, some guys can't hit here at all."

Really, I have no idea. He had a respectable rookie campaign (slugged .469 on the road) and he is still young, but that is pretty ugly.

Mike Hampton's hitting .355 slugging .532.

This is an example of why the Rocks need to get better in scouting and developing players. Surely if they had someone worthwhile in the system Uribe would be benched.

Trading for Payton and Kapler seems to indicate O'Dowd has decided to go with young athletic players who are relatively cheap and see who works out. Uribe probably has proved he isn't one of them but is seen as a cheap player to run out the string this year while O'Dowd shops around. I'd be suprised to see him there next opening day.

he was a top prospect who had a very impressive year last year as a 21 year old. the rockies were probably expecting him to regain that form. they just kept waiting and waiting...

now, what's the difference? might as well keep playing him.

which raises another question, what happened to juan pierre?

Maybe the Rockies need to play Hampton in the outfield when he isn't pitching.....

"This season, we've secreted replaced Juan Uribe with Jose Uribe...let's see if they've noticed."
I think the remedy is clear...change their names. "Juan" is apparently a cursed name in Colorado.

At least the Rockies dumped Neifi Perez off on Kansas City. Imagine having two automatic outs in their lineup.......

Proof that Colorado screws up pitchers and hitters.

But Payton's not that young. He'll be thirty this November.

Unless Uribe goes in another deal for a shortstop I think he'll be the starting SS next year also because there's no one in the farm system who's much better as sad a thought as that is.

Maybe they can try to get Abraham Nunez of the Bucs.

As long as O'Dowd is in charge, deals will be made.
