Default 4 SO in an inning

Yesterday, Reds P Frankie Rodriguez struck out 4 Marlins in the 7th inning.

Rodriguez struck out Charles Johnson, Dave Berg and Ryan Thompson, but
Thompson reached 1st when strike 3 was a wild pitch. After a couple of hits

Chuck Finley and I share the same birthday - so, it's always cool to hear unique stuff about him.

Have any of the consecutive guys ever done it on 12 straight pitches? Doubt it.

Funny, all this time, esp on knuckleballers, no one has ever gotten 5 K in an IP.

Last question - has anyone ever got 4 in an IP with a WP or a PB? Meaning, on one of the K's, say the 1B got the error?

The record book lists pitchers who struck out the side, with a mere 3 SO, on 9 pitches. But, I've never seen a list of pitchers with 4 SO on 12 pitches. I don't know if that means it's never been done or just that nobody kept track of it.

I've never heard of a batter reaching 1st, after a SO, on anything other than a WP or PB. Also, instead of an E3, you could have a bad throw by the catcher and get an E2.

But, I don't know whether the official scorer would focus on that part of the batter reachng base or just on the 3rd strike aspect of the play.

Gotta think it would be hard to throw 12 strikes in a row and have none of them go into play in a big league game, no?

Well, unless the ump had a very WIDE strikezone - which could happen today........

Like the fact that he's married to Tawny Kitaen?

Actually, , that's the one fact that I'm not too crazy about. She's been around - and then back again, no? Linked to be with O.J. Simpson at one time too, I think?

Not too crazy about "swimming" in the same "pool" as O.J. - if you get my drift.

Big time sloppy seconds.

Harold Reynolds too. Baseball-reference.com has feature that can tell you who was born on your birthday. Lots of fun.

You think that's bad? Try Esteban Yan and Faye Throneberry. Must've been a bad week - a day earlier and it could've been Rick Sutcliffe, a day later - Jim Deshaies

I've got some good company. Cleon Jones, Earl Weaver, Eric Milton and that bastard Roger Clemens(if that is not irony I don't know what is) to name a few.

You and the Rocket.
Only would have been better if it had been Luis Sojo.
