Baseball Weekly (1/30) reports that Cedeno was held out of the last 19 games of the season after refusing to participate in a post-9/11 workout:
Quote:
The Tigers had been off for five days ... Phil Garner held a light workout. He asked the players to run the bases, just to get a feel for it again.
"Cedeno said he didn't have to do it," Garner told the Detroit News .... "He said, 'We don't even have to play any more games.' I couldn't believe that. OK, if that's your attitude, then you don't play any more games." So now Cedeno is a Met.

This isn't quite enough information for me. I wonder if Cedeno was just too depressed by the attack to work out? The "we don't have to play any more" comment could just have meant that he felt ball games were unimportant in the face of terrorism. Or, it could have meant "the Tigers suck so why bother?" It's not easy to tell from this piece - was benching him too harsh?
