I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Steinbrenner is expanding his reach.

The AL East should start asking questions if, say, Lofton (for instance) ends up in Toronto or Tampa Bay (no, wait... the got Zimmer). See what I mean!

Think about this.........regardless of what Boston does tonight, if NY loses to TB this afternoon, and then the Sox sweep NY in Fenway, we have a tie for 1st place with a week to go. There's a picture to describe this - let me see if I can find it.

Can't find it.
It was in the 9/9 edition of BBA. It was "The Scream" (you know, the famous piece that was just stolen from a museum, IIRC) and it had Stein's face doing "the scream." It was classic.

I have erased all thoughts/hopes of this from my mind. Just focusing on tonight's game vs. Baltimore. Just takin' 'em one game at a time.

Yesterday's game shows that Boston's trades has worked.
Minky's defense save the game twice, first taking a line drive with two on base and after that starting a double play with a perfect throw to home in the 9th inning. And then Cabrera walk-off homer.
BTW, Mora in 3B had an espectacular play just in the bottom of the 9th taking with his throwing hand a jumping groundball hit by Cabrera and then throwing to home to put out the carrer that should decide the game in that inning. Mora, with his humble style, has learned to play nice that possition after struggling with his defense starting the season.

FWIW, I was at the Yankee game last night. Had a chance to talk to a lot of people at the game - including some of the vendors. I was shocked at how many people there truly felt that NY would back into the WC and then get knocked out in the ALDS - based on the way the team has played in the Toronto series...........

If the Red Sox win - albeit in a close race or in more of a runaway - the aftermath would be the same. The "Evil Empire" would have been defeated, the "Curse of the Bambino" would be somewhat lifted1, and the 2004 season would be one that the "Red Sox Nation" would point to with great pride for decades to follow.

Yes... yes we will...
