What is the biggest difference between the Red Sox and the Tribe, besides several "W"s?
Hitting? The Tribe has scored more runs per game than the Red Sox. The Bo Sox have all these great hitters and the Tribe has a bunch of kids and Matt Lawton, yet the Tribe batters are getting on base better than any other team in the majors. Starting pitching? The Tribe starters have a lower combined ERA than the BoSox starters do. Look it up. The Bo Sox have a ton invested in Pedro, et al, and the Tribe has maybe one starter with name recognition, yet Tribe starters are better, by a little, than Bo Sox starters. Relief pitching? You got it. The Bo Sox have Keith Foulke, who has pitched 36 innings with an ERA around 1-point-nothing, and the Tribe has no one near that. The Tribe has more BLOWN saves than the Red Sox have SAVES. (okay, not really -- but it's pretty close) Anyone who cringes at the thought of a reliever (even worse, a closer) winning an MVP should take a good hard look at these two teams. Maybe the BoSox will have trouble signing the FAs next year. Probably only a handful will remain. If they want to win, Foulke has to stay there for awhile. Otherwise, they are a team struggling to reach .500, just like the Tribe. |
