Question 1986 Was The Last Time

Is it true that the last time that a team with the highest paid player in the game won a ring was the 1986 Mets (Gary Carter)?

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

George Foster finished the year with the White Sox, but I guess the Mets paid the freight?

Foster was released by the Mets in August and then the Sox signed him a week later..

I would think the Mets would have been liable for his contract until he signed with the Sox.. At that point, wouldnt the Sox be on the hook?

Also, although he wasnt the highest player in all of MLB, Joe Carter was the highest paid player in the AL when the Jays won in 1993...

The White Sox would only be on the hook for the prorated league minimum. The releasing team pays the rest.

No, Manny Ramirez was the highest paid player in baseball in 2004, when the Red Sox won the World Series.
