Cool The Curse of Enrique Wilson

This one is too long for a SOTS blog entry. So, I'm sharing a link instead. Reverse the curse!

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Interesting, but not as good a curse as the Curse of the Balboni.

Luis Gonzalez broke that curse in 2001.

That is fantastic.

I think you are on to something. I also think the official scorers in Yankee stadium think the same thing too. This season (or maybe last, pretty sure it was this season) Enrique was tagged with an error that was clearly not his.

It was so blatant that Jerry Remey was poking fun at the Yankee and blaming everything on Enrique. "looks like rain, must be Enrique's fault!" "If the Red Sox make an error it is Enrique's fault too!" They kept this up all game. Absolutely hysterical.

From http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/inde...861592250.xml:

Quote:
The rest of the Yankees' own arbitration decisions were basically as expected. The Yankees offered arbitration to free-agent right-handers Jon Lieber and Orlando Hernandez and outfielder/DH Ruben Sierra. They declined to offer arbitration to (thereby cutting ties with) seven other free agents -- Cairo, first basemen Tony Clark, John Olerud and Travis Lee, right-hander Esteban Loaiza, left-hander C.J. Nitkowski and infielder Enrique Wilson.

Yesterday, December 7, 2004 - a date which will live in infamy - the New York Yankees finally got rid of Enrique Wilson. Happy, happy, joy, joy!

And, now, Wilson is an O.
Thank you Lee Maz. No chance of the curse continuing!
