Best player: Ken Williams, the HR and RBI leader. The voters went for average leader Sisler, who hit .420, but I think Williams had the better year for the Browns who finished but 1 game behind the Yankees. Babe Ruth missing much of the season with injuries and suspensions made this a wide open race, and Ruth, Williams, Cobb, Speaker, or Sisler would be a reasonable pick here. Oddly, neither Ruth nor Williams drew a vote. I don't believe voters (one from each city) were allowed to vote for more than one player per team.
Best pitcher: Red Faber, again. Led league in ERA, 2nd in strikeouts, 5th in wins. Either Rommel or Bush would have won in real life, due to more impressive win totals. Faber was boosting up a still-depleted White Sox team. Best rookie: Joe Hauser, a .323 hitter for the A's, with Vangilder in his only good year close behind. Hauser is better known as a minor league slugger. |

Best Hitter: Ty Cobb and Tris Speaker
I'll go with the veterans who are adjusting to the live ball era very nicely. Cobb hit .401 and Speaker had an OBP of .474. Ruth is derailed due to off the field problems. George Sisler was just one notch below these guys. Best Pitcher: Red Faber One of the few Sox to survive the scandal Faber had another good year. led the league in ERA+ and innings while going 21-17 for the mediocre White Sox. |
