Thumbs up NDF Post Trends

Been a while since I ran one of these reports - -

Code:
Month - Number of Posts That Month April 2001 1161 May 2001 2208 June 2001 971 July 2001 824 August 2001 1360 September 2001 1441 October 2001 3255 November 2001 3095 December 2001 4422 January 2002 6474 February 2002 4710 March 2002 4819 April 2002 7470 May 2002 8787 June 2002 9197 July 2002 9791 August 2002 9113 September 2002 8025 October 2002 9420 November 2002 5627 December 2002 4025 January 2003 6109 February 2003 4736 March 2003 4500 April 2003 5840 May 2003 4361 June 2003 2755 July 2003 4007 August 2003 4160 September 2003 4600

On average, it's 4,900 posts per month - - ballpark, about 160 per day.

Thanks to all for making these numbers what they are - and thanks, big thanks, to the mods for helping will all this activity!

It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse.

Why are the numbers so much lower in June of 2003? Were Smed and Gyb out of town?

I have noticed that there has been a lot of activity and really good discussion during the playoffs. Please, folks, if you're here for the playoffs, stay for the winter and sit around the hot stove with us! These last couple weeks have been really fun around here.

Wolf -- The thread-count stats are interesting. Do you have the numbers for post-counts to lay aside the thread-counts? I'm just wondering if maybe the threads are getting longer. You know, something like a quantity v. quality review...?

“They come and they go,” true. But sometimes they come and they stay.

Over the past 24 hours (since Gyb pointed out to me the additional raw data posted by Wolf), I copied the numbers to a spreadsheet and, as I surfed threads, I grouped guys by join date. Far from comprehensive, I list only posters with recent activity, say within the past month or so.

Posts per Thread (P/T) tends to see its annual peak in October, which is not surprising. Overall however the P/T trend is in decline.

The most fertile influx of currently active posters came aboard on the heels of the 2001 season; that group constitutes the spine of NDF.

Of those joining in the last quarter of 2002, only LisaG remains active.
