With an OPS over 1 I don't think that Beane would care about patience.

I kind of like this deal even though I still hope the A's lose out in the pennant race. For once, they might have a passable OF now. Guillen knows the AL and doesn't really need to adjust much (although he'll have to learn how to be a really good player in the AL for the first time), and even if he blows as a hitter, he still has a rocket arm. A baserunner kill or two could make a big difference in a playoff chase.

I wonder if Guillen will stay as good as he's been this year, or even close to it. He's not just had a career year, he's leaps and bounds better than his career averages. But I remember when he came up with Pirates, he was all hype and potential, and a huge disappointment.

Guillen isn't signed past this year, so Beane doesn't give a rat's behind what he does next year. He'll be a free agent and some idiot will look at his 03 numbers and give him a Jeffrey Hammonds deal. Beane traded away a guy he couldn't use and a useful guy he stole for something he needed.

Not F***ing A, but maybe a B.

And he ain't done.

Beane is getting the last piece of Guillen's career year, which might propel the A's to the playoffs. After that, who knows what will happen?

Harang is a back-of-the-rotation starter, even at 6'6" more of a control/finesse guy. The Reds also get Joe Valentine, the AAA closer the A's got from the Chisox in the Koch trade, and Jeff Bruksch, an A-ball pitcher.

Guillen was gone after the year, and the Reds desperately needed some arms. Any arms.

That's what I'm waiting for too. My last few games may well end up watching a 'new' team.

Today, as Jose was not offered, we know this is true.

It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse.
