It's not just that body types are different - though that's a good place to start, because Bonds has always been a very good all-around athlete, compared to McGwire's more one-dimensional talents. But McGwire also had a long history of injury which Bonds does not have. Further, McGwire retired a lot sooner than many players would have - he almost certainly had a few more 20HR seasons if him had he wanted to DH and play at less than 100%. Bonds, if he's close to the record, might not make the same choice as McGwire.

Every day that Bonds plays without injury, I believe more and more that he will catch Aaron. And I'm amazed.

my point, as others mentioned, is that he's at a point in his career in which one injury may be enough to decimate his chances... nonetheless, i'm rooting for him
