http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseba...s%2Dcolumnists
Wow! This would be something! Possible? Or, just noise? Quote:

Does Nomar have a no-trade clause in his contract?

Since Nomah is on my fantasy team, I'm loving the idea of this trade. And the A's are my 2nd favorite team. I'd be surprised if Boston goes for it, though. Nomah is just better all-around.

probably just noise....if garciaparra played for most other teams (as opposed to the now stat-savvy redsox), the other team may be fooled by tejada's "mvp" performance.

It's intriguing---star swaps always are. But I don't think it has a snowball's chance of happening.

Well, if Nomar truly wants to go west after 2004 when he's a FA, then you do this to protect yourself - - trade him now, get a replacement, and sign the replacement long term. Plus, by trading him, you free up the money and spot for his replacement. If Nomar is on the team in 2004, no way can they sign a guy like Tejada at the end of 2003. It all makes sense to me.

I have never heard Nomar say he wants to go West. He has repeatedly said that he wishes to continue to play in Boston. In post game shows on NESN he has spoken out against the rumors that Buckley and Winbagshey have printed.
I will believe it when I see it. I was prepared for a blockbuster trade involving Pedro. I would be beyond shocked to see a Garciaparra trade. Some tough decisions will have to be made to keep Lowe and Nomar. Pedro has not been resigned as of yet. This season will be telling in the dirrection the Sox will be going.

I don't think this will happen as is. I just don't see Boston moving Nomar this year. Next year maybe.

Would any Sox player in their right mind confirm a rumor like that? I'm sure that would make him real popular for the rest of the season. I've learned not to believe most of what athletes and entertainers say. If it happens, I think the A's again get the better of a deal. |

This would be New York Newsday talking about Boston making a dumb move, right? :-) Wishful thinking on the Noo Yawk end of things, I suspect...
