Wish I could remember which great pitcher it was - - but, it's a classic line:
He was asked" "What's the best pitch to throw on a 2-1 count?" The answer went something like: "Depends. What's the inning? Who's on base? Who's on deck? How's my stuff? Who do I have in the field behind me? What place are we in the standings? Where are we playing? And, most importantly, what's the score?" Case in point - - Game 6 of this WS. Johnson was pitching like he needed a SO until the D-backs blew the game open. Once he knew he had some room, he worried about just getting smart outs - - yup, he gave up some more hits, but, he did only what he had to do to win the game - - and save something for his next appearance." ERA? Think he cared about his ERA? Heck no, he only cared about the W.
