Default MLB: Blow Off Work For Us

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/ne...b_nd&fext=.jsp

MLB.com is having a contest for the best excuse given to work - so that you can go to Opening Day.

Is this the right message?

I'm going to Opening Day this year, and, know what? I'm taking a personal day at work for the time off. (We get 2 personal days per year to use for whatever reason we need to be excused from work.)

What's next - kids, tell us the best story behind cutting class to go to the game?

I work mid shifts -- no prob, unless the game goes really long -- like 28 innings or so.

Still plenty of good seats available at The Jake this operner -- could be the first non-sellout in Cleveland since, well, who knows when -- probably the last season at old Muni (which held something like 80,000).

When you're dealing with adults leaving work, I don't think it's a big deal. They're not asking anyone to come up with new ways of getting around it, but are only looking for past experiences. Also, any adult who chooses to leave work for a game has nobody to blame but themselves for possible repercussions. We're all at the point now where we are responsible for our own behavior. If you're looking to MLB for approval of past misdeeds, then you've probably got some issues.

With kids, it's a different matter. Even without specifically encouraging them to leave school for games, it could be seen as condoning that type of behavior. If a kid thinks, "Hey, I could win a contest because I skipped in the past," they may be more likely to do it again in the future.

For the adults, it just sounds like a goofy contest.

Uh... "I'm taking the day off so I can go to Opening Day."

Okay, so I wasn't creative... but I went to Opening Day (2000).

If they ever started filtering our Internet use here, they'd wonder if I actually do any work. I think I do, but I tend to get things done quickly so I have time for posting here, reading the paper, checking ESPN, etc.

As for leaving to go a baseball game - if you take your "own" time, such as a personal day, vacation, or even sick time, I don't have a problem with it. You've earned that time.

Personally, I'll be taking off the first week of April for the sole purpose of attending Reds games and watching as much baseball as possible.

I am going to my 7th straight opening day this year in Tampa. I reminded my boss of this fact today and all he did was shake his head and say "BASEBALL??!!"

It is an unspoken agreement.

We use to formally write it up.........but now, it is understood.

What a role model for young baseball fans: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/ne..._mlb&fext=.jsp

For cryin' out loud, repeat after me lady: Boss, I'm taking a vacation day next week.

What in the world is so hard about that?

POSTING TIP FOR THE DAY: When composing a post, think about what you would say if the intended recipient was an individual who was actually sitting just two feet in front of you, in person, rather than just some far away and anonymous audience who only can identify you as text on a PC screen - - and then write your post in that manner. It makes for remarkable and sincere discourse.

We go live with the new computer system at work 4/1 so all fools must be in the office for a mandatory meeting. I had my day all set up so I could watch the first pitch no problema............ The baseball gods have already started!

I still have my homeopener negotiated........... you would think the season opener would be understood........SHESHHHH!!!

Desparate times may call for that car crash scenario.....you think?
