Red face Godzilla, or, Junior?

It's now no secret that the Reds are shopping Griffey Jr.

On ESPN Radio in NYC, yesterday, they were polling listeners - who were Yankee fans - - would you rather have Hideki Matusi or Ken Griffey Jr.?

Most of what I heard were people saying Griffey.

Forget the Yankees, say it was YOUR (favorite) team - - and you could have one of the two -- who would you rather have, Matusi or Griffey, and why?

Hey ... it IS my favorite team. And I'll keep Griffey.

Me too!

Funny thing is, a couple of years ago when the Mariners were trying to trade him, Junior supposedly said he wouldn't go to the Yankees, because he didn't like the way they treated Senior.

I remember that well. What does his reversal now say about him?

I'll go with Griffey. I'm hoping this is our chance to see him for a full and healthy season. I guess that's not going to happen, though.

Matsui would be a nice consolation if Junior leaves, but let's hope that doesn't happen.

I'd take a flyer on Matusi. Junior has been dinged alot of over the past few seasons. Is that hammy going to be his undoing?

I'll take Godzilla. I think Griffey is never going to be the 40+ homer player with gold glove defense again. Give the new guy a shot.

I have a Ken Griffey Junior pennant and several Junior shirts in my possession. Naturally, I picked Gojira.

I think Hideki Matsui would be the better combination of skills and popularity than Griffey...and it'll be more enjoyable to watch him play. And besides, if it were on my favorite team, that'd give us a 4th Japanese player...and hopefully a 5th if we ink Shinjo...

Griffey's hammy and 'tude would scare the hell out of me. Give me the guy from Japan who is a solid citizen and reportedly a great fundamental player.

Then again, I would have taken Joe Rudi over Reggie in 1977.

Neither. Sometimes a good gambler has to stay pat with the hand delt. Give me Floyd and my deal is done.......well one more pen guy. No more big deals for my team.

I think that Griffey is a guy in need of a change of both venue and position.

I think that Griffey needs to go to either Atlanta, Chicago, or an AL team. If I were the Braves, I'd get him and put him at 1B.

A shift to 1B would, IMO, cut down on the hamstring injuries.

A shift from Cincinnati would enable Griffey to escape the team with the worst health record for outfielders of any team in the majors.

Griffey is in a mid-career funk, due to injuries. Yaz had a similar funk at a similar age. Matsui is an unknown. Griffey has been a superstar who needs to play for a better organization in order to right his (IMO) temporarily floundering career.

I still like Griffey, but disagree with this statement. It's not just due to injuries, but due to attitude, martyr complex, work ethic, and drive - some of which have directly contributed to the propensity to have such injuries.

Default Another Yankee Fan Checking in...

Personally I'd like to see both. If the Yanks could trade Mondesi and White for Junior, and Juan Rivera im the deal for Colon, the Boss would gladly spend a little more dough to bring in Godzilla. Yeah, it won't happen but I can dream.

I happen to think the Kid makes a big comeback this year. He's working really hard this offseason for the first time in his career. Junior was one of those guys that thought he'd be young forever. Look how good he was for most of career without even trying! He'll have the best season of his career in '03. You heard it here first.

If you're right BJ, I'll be happy to give you full credit ... but only if he still has a Big Reds 'C' on his cap. ... hope you don't mind being called BJ, but what did you expect?

It looks like the Reds will end up keeping Griffey. Supposedly Bowden and the Kid spoke and Junior assured him he isn't disgruntled and would prefer to stay a Red. So that career year will probally be under a "c" cap.
