Default League Championship Series TV Coverage

Can you imagine the NFL putting the AFC and NFC Championship games on a the same time opposite each other?

The people in charge of MLB just don't get it. By scheduling both the ALCS and NLCS games Wednesday night competing against each other, they are basically saying, We only have regional fans. We are NOT the National Pastime -- we are the Regional Pastime.

Bunch of idiots.

MO-RONS! Absolute idiots.

What's wrong with having the ALCS be an afternoon game? Heck, some people may play hooky from work to watch it. Now I gotta be a flipper and piss off the wife....

Not in a million years. Another reason why they're miles ahead of MLB in so many ways, including TV ratings and overall popularity.

as i've mentioned once or thrice, my sports law prof. is high up in the NFL front office. whenever he talks about current sports issues, he tends to get a little smug when comparing MLB and NFL.

Acknowledging this out-of-character smugness, he said, "I don't mean to be so smug all the time, but sometimes it seems like baseball goes out of its way take the wrong path."

Unbelievable......I was assuming that Game 1 of San Francisco-St Louis was an afternoon game today. Oh well.....I'm working at Target tonight and will just have to catch bits and pieces of the Twins and Angels as "time permits".

I'm sure we've had our fill of anti-Bud threads, so I'll keep this brief.

Leadership. It all comes down to leadership.

For about the same time-frame you have:
NFL = Bert Bell, Austin Gunsel, Pete Rozelle, Paul Tagliabue
MLB = Happy Chandler, Ford Frick, Spike Eckert, Bowie Kuhn, Peter Ueberroth, Bart Giamatti/Fay Vincent, Bud Selig

Or, simplified...
NFL = Strong, visionary leadership from the top
MLB = um... not

MLB, we never miss a chance to miss a chance.

Did the timezones have anything to do with this decision?

I have spent a good amount of time on Sunday afternoons watching football in the TV department while the wife shops. I am sure you'll be able to sneak a peek.

I'm responsible for making sure there are shopping carts in the store (and a few other miscellaneous things). By the time the game starts, business in the store should have slowed down quite a bit and I should be plenty caught up to sneak plenty of peeks at the game. Go Twins !!!

Thumbs down

RE: Time Zones.

Let's see -- ALCS game will be played in Minneapolis, NLCS will be in St. Louis. Both in the Central Time Zone.

Could have put the NL game at 4:00, catch the folks coming home from work. Put the AL game at 7:30 for prime time. If there's an overlap, you let the affiliates decide to switch or stay.

You also won't be able to listen to one on the radio and watch the other on TV in most markets, because both are on ESPN radio. Your local ESPN radio affiliate will have to pick which one to carry, which will likely be the same local interest game the local FOX station picks.

Timmyb, very nicely said.
Are the games only on Fox, or is one on FX? Could Fox have asked MLB to do this scheduling magic?
