Even though it's on ESPN, I've posted this in the JSI forum because it really is not a sport.
I was just watching this program for a couple of minutes, and it made me wonder the same thing I always do when I see it - Why in the world is this done? Now, I realize that we as North Americans may not understand some things other cultures do. However, it's unbelievably cruel to the bulls (who will meet an even crueler fate soon enough), and I think their are better ways of proving your manhood than taunting an angry and confused animal. It seems one step up from cow-tipping to me. So what's the appeal here? |

Well, for a viewer it's the same vicarious thrill we get when we watch auto racing.
As for the people that do it is ample demonstration that there are no Mensa candidates in Pamplona.

The auto racing analogy is apt.

I am embarrassed to admit, that running with the bulls in Pavlona, was on my top 10 things to do before I turned 30.
Never got around to it.

Just to keep this on the "who-gives-a" level, our local (U of Louisville) football coach has a list of things to do that he tries to knock at least one off of each football off season. Last year he ran with the bulls, this year it was skydiving (with a truly hilarious bug-eyed what-the-heck-was-I-thinking front page picture on our local Pravda).

I've got some friends from Lexington who wish your basketball coach would run with (or under) the bulls, Skip.

I would have expected the twits at PETA to interfere with this event long before now.
