I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Have you read The Baseball Same Game?

-30 career RSAA

Had the good fortune of playing with good teammates, which enabled him to bootstrap his own reputation.

I'm with Lee. Lifetime ERA above the park-adjusted league average, and it's not because of a few clunker years - he had an above-average ERA only five times. Led the NL in ER allowed more than in ERA. Pretty amazing in the '57 Series (3-0, 3 complete games, 0.67 ERA, 0.93 WHIP). But otherwise, I'm not overwhelmed.

Thumbs down

Burdette benefitted from good teammates, but he did have his day in the sun. He was the 1957 WS MVP by beating the Yankees three times. He was the first pitcher in 37 years to hurl 3 WS CG's and the first in 52 years to hurl two shutouts. The Braves had acquired him in 1951 from the Yankees.
