Default Stottlemyre's Annual Dance??

Doesn't Stottlemyre do this every year?? I mean I really don't care one way or the other, but it seems like every year for the last few years he has said he wanted to retire.

Last two years, for sure. Maybe three? But, not more than that - I'm 90% sure.

It's a done deal - Neil Allen is the pitching coach next year.

Good.

Look at Mazzone and Duncan - they turn guys around.
Mel? He gets guys with track records and/or great potential and they die in NY.

But, FWIW, I met a guy on Tuesday who's son worked out with Jason Marquis and he said that Marquis was thrilled to get out of Atlanta because he could not stand Mazzone. Go figure.

I've been going to games since August 8, 1973....and on August 22, 2004, finally, a foul ball came my way. I had to reach for it, and it deflected off the tip of my right index finger. Shoot, if I was only 4 inches taller!

Still dancing.......

Quote:
The Yankees, stuck in a holding pattern while Mel Stottlemyre contemplates his future, hope to hear his decision today, a source familiar with the situation said yesterday.

Stottlemyre, who is the only pitching coach the Yankees have known under manager Joe Torre, has been leaning toward retirement but wavered in recent days.

After saying for two days he wasn't ready to comment on the status of next year's coaching staff, general manager Brian Cashman did not return phone messages yesterday.

Stottlemyre's agent, Tony Attanasio, also did not return a call to his office.

Neil Allen, the Triple-A Columbus pitching coach for the last two seasons, is expected to take over if Stottlemyre retires. Stottlemyre, who turns 63 later this month, did not speak with reporters one day after the Yankees were eliminated in the American League Championship Series and has not returned a call to his home in Issaquah, Wash.

Even if Stottlemyre decides to stay, the Yankees' staff will receive a facelift.

Bench coach Willie Randolph was officially introduced as manager of the Mets yesterday, and the Yankees also have fired catching instructor Gary Tuck for the second time in six years, two sources familiar with the situation said yesterday.

Advance scout Chuck Cottier is the leading candidate to become the bench coach next season. Special assignment instructor Rob Thomson spent this past season traveling with the team for the first time in his 15-year career with the Yankees and is a possibility to replace Tuck. Current YES broadcaster and former catcher Joe Girardi is a longshot.

At internal meetings last week, members of the Yankees' Tampa contingent expressed that they would like to see Stottlemyre replaced by Allen, but Cashman and Torre would like Stottlemyre to stay. The Yankees will be waiting by the phone today hoping to hear his answer.

This is a joke, IMHO. The Yankees should say "You want the job or not? Tell us now" and then move on.

Look's like Mel has re-upped for another year.

And, hopefully, this is it.
After 2005, Mel, take the gold watch and get out of town - for good - please.
