Default Opinion of the Indians-Rangers Trade?

I like the trade of Ryan Ludwick for Shane Spencer and Ricardo Rodriguez from a Cleveland standpoint. The Indians needed right-handed power hitters. Ludwick is a younger and hopefully better version of Spencer.

Rodriguez could be a decent pitcher but the Indians have an excess of starters.

I think the Indians may have given up too much. Isn't Rodriguez's star potential much greater than Ludwick's?

What exactly are the Rangers going to do with Spencer? Unless that guy with big head is officially out of their plans - - not Igor, the rookie LF from last year.

I think the Rangers are banking on Rodriguez panning out. I can't imagine that they made the deal mainly for Spencer.

My opinion is that it'll be more worthwhile for both than the Hafner trade.

Indians really did give a lot more than they needed to though. Spencer isn't worth a lot so I'll ignore him. Ludwick only seemed like a potential fairly decent player while I saw Ricky Rodriguez as being potentially quite good. However, pitching is pitching and John Hart is doing well with getting some.

Ludwick probably fills a need though, and it never hurts to have a little extra speed.

I agree - Spencer is filler; Wolf's "guy with the big head" - Kevin Mench - is younger and cheaper and might even turn out to be a better player, though he is on the DL right now.

Someone on baseball tonight last night - I can't recall who - said that back in spring training everyone in the Indians camp pegged Rodriguez as their best young pitcher. As with all trades for prospects, time will tell, but the Rangers might have made a great deal here.

I can only assume that the evening factor is the penchant Rodriguez has shown for getting injured.

Speaking of which - - since when can you trade a guy who is on the DL?

Do the Rangers have any real (ie. B or higher) pitching prospects in the pipeline? This could be a move to get any kind of prospect at anything resembling a reasonable cost.
