Jae Kuk Ryu, an A-ball pitcher with the Daytona Cubs, killed an osprey with a ball during pregame warmups last week:

Now, killing an animal accidentally is one thing, but he repeatedly tried to hit the bird with his throws. It was one of a breeding pair that had been there for years.

Personally, I'd love to see him get jail time for this, even though I'm guessing he'll just be fined. In fact, I think he should be deported. While I don't value animal life on a level with human life, I just think this behavior is abhorrent. Maybe before the next game, he could try setting a cat on fire, or beating a dog with a stick.

The whole thing just makes me sick.

I am surprised that we have heard nothing about his teammates trying/telling him to stop.

After all the grief Dave Winfield got years ago for accidentally hitting a seagull, what's gonna happen here?

I see the Cubs did "demote" him to the Midwest League and claimed he was "remorseful". Typical organization ducking away from any real responsibility in the case.

Just one more reason to enjoy seeing the Cubs choke later this year.......

I'm with you, Pat. I don't know what the answer is.

Shouldn't this be in APNAC?

According to Winfield, it wasn't accidental. He made a comment that he tried for years to hit one of them, whenever one was in the line of fire when playnig between inning catch.
