View Full Version : Frank Thomas and Hriniak
Frank Thomas has called on Walt Hriniak to help him turn around his season opening (and beyond) slump. Is this relevant? Likely to help? Spinning wheels? Likely to cause friction with the Sox (who let Hriniak go years ago)? Just curious.

he's been doing this for years. it's an old story. none of his teammates care.
thomas must be on prozac, because he's been all smiles all the time. i think he's leading the league in walks. his average is kind of low, but it's only 12 games. i think he wants to straighten things out before digging himself into a deep hole like he did last year.

Why not? We expect people in private enterprise to show initiative in solving problems.

I'm all for it. I know golfers seek out the guidance of others when they have problems.
How different is it than someone calling up a mentor in business for advice or a loved one for reassurance? Maybe it'll give Thomas peace of mind even if there's nothing mechanical to fix.

The media doesn't like Thomas. So, if Thomas goes to see Hriniak, it's WAH he's not being a team guy by working with the team's hitting coach.
If the media liked him, it would be GREAT Thomas is such a great guy that he goes out of his way to get help and doesn't take the lazy approach by just taking what's available by walking across the clubhouse to the coaches' office.

This is true. Did the media speak up when Frank Robinson came in to give Cal Ripken special hitting advise?

Just hearing Hriniak's name gives me the shivers... but, hey, if Frank wants to be pro-active, let him. (I have issues with Walter's teachings, but it if it works for Thomas, good for him.)

Not me! I see that name and I feel posative vibes for Thomas '03 season. Walt has done wonders for hitters. I know some players have faulted him for ruining thier career, but who is say? For every Gedman there is an Evans. If Thomas is willing to do the work, he should get the results. If he hires the coach, he can fire the coach!
Good for Thomas!:hooray:

Thomas went to see Hrniak in a widely publicized move before the 2000 season and it helped him return to being close to his mid 90's production. After another couple rough seasons Thomas went back to Hrniak. As a Sox fan I hope the results are similar this time around.

i'm beginning to think thomas' days are passed. he's hitting .212.
he appears to be perfectly healthy, in good shape, good attitude, but the results just aren't there. seems like he'll never be the same after the 2001 arm injury.
