Last night, for the 1st time in a long time, I watched a Braves game.

How long has TBS been using the "scorecard" graphics on the players line for each PA and for the "game box" on each play?

I really liked seeing both. What do you think of it?

Should other networks pick it up? Or, would that just be a rip-off copy job?

There is nothing original in TV, and when there is something original (the first down marker in football) EVERYONE steals it!

This is the 2nd year of the "Supercard" It also appears on Braves Baseball on Turner South telecasts.

They also show real, live scorecards during home telecasts. My season tickets are the first row behind the visting on deck circle, next to the camera well that sits between me and the visiting dugout at turner field. on more than one occasion, i have given my scorebook (i keep one at every game i attend) to the cameraman, whom ive gotten to know over the years, and it is propped in front of the camera and shown to the world on tbs whenever there is a question about scoring, or the subject of how to score something comes up during a broadcast....

Nice seats! Can we see you when they show a RH batter at the plate?

Get that man a NetShrine T-shirt!

OK, back on topic - - - has the "scorecard" thing on TBS changed at all in the last two years?

No TBS doesn't pay me....

And no, the scorecard has not really changed...the only main change is an addition....after every play, they throw up a graphic attached to the scorebox in the corner of the screen with the scoring of the play....just a small unobstusive box that comes up for 2-3 seconds and says "4-3"; or "E6", etc.

I noticed the scorecard stuff this year too and thought it was cool, but I've noticed they don't show the graphic with the scoring of the play after every play. I think they should either do that all the time or not do it at all. If they consider it somewhat of a teaching tool (and maybe they don't and just started doing it because it's cool), if a person is new to scoring, I would think it would be annoying that sometimes you see the scoring of the play and sometimes you don't.

They do put up the scoring after every play...however, sometimes they are quite as timely with it...so if you look away before the pitch, thats when it pops up. Now I'm sure that the production truck has missed a play or two, but as a general rule they always put the scoring up, just sometimes not as timely as others, could be that they are waiting on a ruling from the official scorer....

And yes, they do use it as a teaching tool...on the Braves Radio Network the 4 announcers do a pregame call in show for an hour before every game, and that was something that was requested more than anything over the years....people always would ask what the announcers mean by saying "Groudball...could be two...6-4-3, inning over..." etc., etc., they always were asking what that meant and how they could learn more about scoring, and then late in the 2001 season, pete was on the talk show and announced that they would be adding more scoring graphics on the television broadcasts in order to help educate viewers....

so the short version of that answer is- yes it is mainly used a teaching tool....

Ok, perhaps my eyes were playing tricks on me :dizzy: .

That's great that they are actually listening to what people want and trying to give it to them.

Yeah, in spite of the decision to change the MLB on TBS MLB on TBS changes (http://www.netshrine.com/vbulletin2/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9211) which has been discussed at length in that thread, Turner Sports had done a pretty decent job of listening to the fans and adapting to them. Turner was one of the first networks to use a score/inning box in baseball, and the fans also asked for more interaction with the announcers, and they added the "e-mail the booth" feature...

But the scorecard has been a hit, and everyone who I have ever heard talk about it, seems to have liked it...

I seem to remember the Braves broadcasters giving out (presupercard) the scoring results on some plays, "for those of you scoring at home." Of course that caused some laughing back in college. (Side note: that may have made a good drinking game, every time a braves broadcaster says "for those of you scoring at home," do a shot). Seems to make sense that viewers would want to know what they meant, and how one scores a ball game. Good of TBS to oblige. And yeah, I think its pretty cool.

One side note, I noticed a little bit of abuse of the email the booth yesterday. Someone asked them what the best baseball movie ever was (this, right after a commercial for a TBS premiere of a certain movie coming next weekend). They answered Field of Dreams, the very same movie that TBS is premiering next weekend.

Lo and behold - watching the Yanks on YES just now - Bernie Williams up in the 7th - and they had his boxscore line-score on his PA graphic - - that was fast!

You beat me to it Steve, I was going to report that too. Michael Kay is pretty good about saying how the play was scored after each one, so I'm wondering if they don't see the need to copy that feature.
