With Byrd out indefinitely and Hampton still on the shelf, the Braves signed a former nemisis in Shane Reynolds...anyone think this will help? Does he have enough left in the tank to be effective at Turner Field??

Well somebody has to pitch, so I guess he helps a little.

Well, a former nemesis may not be a friend....Reynolds still may have some health issues.

what's the over/under till he joins Byrd on the DL?

Didn't the Mets think they were close to signing him? Probably a little of that involved for the Braves.

I think the Braves may have been better of keeping Millwood and working in rookies and low priced free agents instead of Hampton/Byrd.

And - it looked like Trey Hodges wasn't so bad the other night.

Part of what caused me to scratch my head when the Braves signed Byrd and traded for Ortiz was that they already had some pretty good pitchers in the high levels of their minor league system - or guys like Marquis who were already on the ML roster.

I thought Reynolds was good several years ago, but I don't think he has much left. Add the health issues to that, and I doubt he'll be the answer the Braves are looking for.

Guys like Reynolds, who DO have ability, have snapped back to have 1-2 good years, after years of struggling. There are many examples.

If that were to happen, however, it would have to be with people like Cox and Mazzone who know what they're doing with pitchers.
