View Full Version : Doing things backwards, as usual

I've already opened my big yap on a couple of other threads, so this isn't technically my first post, but consider me a stickler for protocol. I just have problems with sequencing :-)
For whatever it's worth, I'm a computer game designer and freelance writer settled into the RTP area of North Carolina. I'm a die-hard Phillies fan (emphasis on "die" these past 20 years), though I come from a long line of bitter Brooklyn Dodgers fans. I've been playing a roto league with friends from college for 13 years, though my best attributes as a fantasy player seem to be an uncanny knack for dumping prospects one year too soon, and a bad habit of finishing 3rd about as often as the Blue Jays.
In any case, it's a pleasure to find a site like this. I've long despaired of finding a place to talk baseball that wasn't knee-deep in"Yankees rule/Yankees suck!" threads, so I'm very happy to be here. With luck I'll be able to add a little something to the joint.
Thanks for allowing me on board.

Deadguy... welcome to Netshrine. I am sure you'll enjoy the intelligent baseball discussion.
Welcome ... and it's still ok to have one of the two opinions you stated regarding the Yankees, we just use cleverer words (like cleverer!) to get the point across. :D
I too am an occasional software designer, but work more with low level control systems, embedded systems, etc. (Unless by game designer, you meant more the plot/story/sequencing than the software, that is)

Welcome deadguy. I, too, am descended from a bitter Brooklyn fan. My dad grew up in the shadow of Ebbets Field and was one of the kids that used to play hooky and peek through holes in the fence to watch the games.
Somehow we manage to avoid the trashtalk here at NetShrine. It really is like a refreshing drink of water. Looking forward to your (further) contributions!

Thank you very much for the warm welcome.
I'm actually a "Write the story/design the features/get laughed at by the project team" kind of designer, Skip, or at least I used to be. I'm now in the evil ranks of management, which at least keeps me away from any actual work. Incidentally, I don't mind discussions of whether or not the Yankees stink; I just want them to be held in complete sentences :-)
And I don't think my folks ever peered through the knotholes into Ebbets Field, Satchel, but they still have their Dodgers yearbooks from the 50s, and there's a baseball sitting on my bookshelf that family legend claims was knocked out of the park by Gil Hodges...

From one new member too another, get ready to be a little less productive at work, if you have access to this site there.
I hope Tyler Houston helps the Phillies more than he helped the Dodgers last year.

Amen, brothers and sisters!
Hoping not to be banned, I do believe that 'Yankees suck.' qualifies as a complete sentence. Not that I personally would ever express such a crass opinion, even if I held it, which I do not - as far as you know. :p

Actually Skip, it's an oxymoron.
And, that's not a big guy from Kentucky!

Well, dg, you have already added something as the first corpse to grace these boards.
With the possible exception of Smed after a big night out with the guys.

I'm not so much excited as curious as to how they're going to break my heart this year :-)
And sweaver, I am proud to be the first Alternately Vivified-American on Netshrine, and will do my best to uphold that honor :-)
