The 1st inning in a ST game? Should he get punished for going out there with the bat?

I don't think the question is should he be punished, but rather how much this is going to cost him? MLB has taken a dim view on this type of confrontation in recent years. Throw the bat into the mix and I see a several game suspension with a nice big old fine thrown in there for good measure.

He'll miss the first week of the season, plus a fine.

The number one thing to give the pitchers back the inside corner would be to only fine/suspend the batter in situations like this. This rushing the mound is a lot of crap.

It would make a good statement early in the (pre) season to hit Vlad pretty hard on this one.

I have already stated my views many times on batters going out to the mound and being wusses over inside pitching.

(I will now stop and say "Bob Gibson" five times.)

vlad was certainly overreacting. pitchers don't throw at batters in spring training. and this rushing the mound stuff needs to stop

Pitchers will hit guys in ST - if the situation is right - - the Unit drilled a Cub last week in a game when a few D'backs were hit -- but, pitchers just don't do this in the 1st inning on purpose............

Just wanted to point this out. They were more lenient on Vlad than I would have been. only 3 games off.

Actually if you look at it they were harder on Vlad. Penny will miss a start for a 5 game suspension. Vlad is going to miss three games he would of played in.

perhaps, but this kind of stuff must stop - three games is too small a penalty for charging the mound

Max was complaining earlier about this being a quiet spring. I don't remember so many brawls in ST, ever, in a year.
