View Full Version : Free Netshrine Fantasy League on Yahoo!

You are invited to join a Netshrine member fantasy league, offered for free on Yahoo Fantasy Baseball. This league is set for a live draft on Thursday, March 6 at 4:55 Eastern, 1:55 Pacific. You can also set for autopick, and the computer will pick for you based on your rankings if you are unable to pick live.

This is set to be a head-to-head league, where two teams square off against each other each week. Some rules are set up, but these can be discussed and possibly changed as we approach the season.

If you would like to be a part of the league, send me an e-mail through this site and I will send you the league password.

how long would the draft take?

sweaver
02-24-2003, 03:59 PM
It depends. Usually 1.5-2 hours. But you can pre-rank and let the computer pick for you.

Just a note to consider from the Yahoo site:

Your league will not be permitted to conduct its draft if it contains an odd number of managers.

sweaver
02-25-2003, 02:29 PM
Well, we might have a number of odd managers..........

There are right now 5 teams registered. We need at least 12, I think, to have a good league. We are set for a max of 20. Still plenty of room to get on board, but the deadline is Thursday, March 6. If I do not reply to your e-mail right away, don't worry, I will get back to you.

I was looking over the rules and had a couple of suggestions.

If you are going to go with OBP then I would get rid of the walks category for hitters. Too much benefit for getting walked. For pitching I would get rid of complete games. It's kind of a bogus stat for Fantasy Baseball.

JamesI
02-25-2003, 05:37 PM
That seems reasonable to me KC.

Complete games aren't that common anymore anyway.

sweaver
02-25-2003, 07:38 PM
The walks/OBP thing I understand. Unnecessary duplication. But the CG rewards the durable pitchers. I kinda like it to boost the elite starters.

The reason Complete Games are a little strange is that even the top pitchers don't get enough to make a huge difference. Randy Johnson led the league at 8 last year. That's an average of one every three weeks. With a head to head league you are going to have the category decided based on 1 or 2 complete games a week for your entire staff. It makes it tough to play for that category and factors in luck more than in a lot of other categories.

I agree 100%...I don't like a stat that only amounts to 3% of a positions statistics.

At last check, we have 11 teams registered. Still room for more!

I also agree on not having CG.

Complete games and batters' walks have been eliminated as scoring categories.

The draft time has been changed to Thursday, March 6 (same day) at 12:10 Eastern. This may be better for some of you. If it turns into a serious problem, it may be changed. You can always have the computer draft for you if you cannot draft live.

We currently have 13 teams signed up. Still room! Max is 20!

JamesI
02-28-2003, 01:15 PM
Is it possible to start the draft live, then leave and let the computer take over later?

sweaver
02-28-2003, 01:30 PM
Yes, and you can come in and/or leave at any point.

Due to unforseen circumstances I won't be able to properly prepare for or attend the draft. Sorry to say I am going to have to drop out of the league.

We are down to 11 teams now, so I am delaying the draft hoping some more of you will jump in. We will now draft next Friday, March 14, starting at 12:20 Eastern time. Again, if you would like to play in a FREE fantasy league on Yahoo with other Netshriners, send me an e-mail through my profile page, and I will send you the info needed to register.

12:20 is perfect for me...I get done at 12:00 on fridays....who works past noon on fridays?????

when do we find out the draft order??

sweaver
03-10-2003, 11:13 PM
I won't randomize until at least 11 on Friday, because if anyone jumps in, it resets to the order in which we signed up. So, draft order will not be determined until the last minute.

rza93
03-12-2003, 06:14 PM
so... 13 teams, need 1 more to make the league even numbered or someone drops.

sweaver
03-12-2003, 10:04 PM
Don't worry about that, I can fix that. Of course, everyone is still welcome, WT can get back in, and more can join.

Just found out that Yahoo randomizes automatically, and I do not have to set it.

Depends on dates and times Yahoo has available. Pickings are pretty slim by now. Put some suggestions here, and I'll check into it.

Afternoons work best for me.

We can do a straight rotiss with sabermetric stats, instead of head to head.

The only weekend time available is on Sunday morning, the day the season starts, so we would miss the first day. There is still time open the next weekend, so we would just miss the first week of games.

There is some afternoon time available next week for a live draft if we want.

SmedIndy
03-21-2003, 02:04 PM
Why not just make it retroactive - especially in a straight rotiss.

We could see who falls for the Littlefield effect!

sweaver
03-22-2003, 11:11 AM
Yahoo has apparently opened up some more times for drafting, because on checking just now there are times available in all slots next week, Sunday through Saturday. If we can get a consensus of when to draft, I will set up a league and a live draft time.

TGwynn19
03-22-2003, 11:17 AM
sweaver,

I would suggest that you pick a time/date that works for you and let the rest of us decide if we can make it. The first draft has half?? of the people doing it live. I would prefer to do it live again but if I have to use auto-pick this time that would be ok.

I just think that you will get 10 different times and dates is all.

sweaver
03-22-2003, 11:21 AM
There's a danger to that. I would like to get some opinions, even in generalities, (afternoons, weekends) that would give this some direction.

gyb13
03-22-2003, 11:37 AM
ok - here are my generalities. i prefer:

weekends (late morning, early afternoon)
weeknights (after 8pm)

Gosfgiants
03-22-2003, 11:58 AM
If we can do it before the season starts, get whatever time you can. If we can not and have more flexibility, I would prefer after 12 pm. EST on anyday. I did suggest a weekend initialy, but it seems my weekend calandar has filled up.

Well, I had to make a best guess. Here's the deal for Netshrine League II:

Rotisserie style league, ID # 206548, password netshrine. Go to Yahoo, fantasysports, baseball, click on the free leagues, then on Join Private League and type in this information. The draft will be live online Wednesday at 12:05 eastern, 9:05 pacific. If you cannot be online for the draft, you can pre-rank your players so the computer doesn't do something like draft Phil Nevin for you.

Tried to get a night or weekend spot before the season starts, but those apparently went fast. So I went with lunchtime in the eastern time zone again.

gyb13
03-23-2003, 03:28 PM
i'll join if i can be online to draft that day...i had my college buddies league draft today...i'm happy with my lineup (LoDuca, D.Lee, Vidro, ARod, Lowell, Abreu, Chipper, Dunn, Rollins), but a little short on pitching (Wood, Vazquez, Padilla, Lawrence, Williamson, Stewart, Redman, Fossum). My bench is Kotsay, Wilkerson, Rusch, and Alfonseca.

TGwynn19
03-24-2003, 05:57 PM
sweav,

as of right now we have 6 teams. Will we still go forward with the league if we only get 6 teams? It might be kinda cool. All-Stars at every position.

This is an open call for all who read this to join NetShrine LeagueII!!!!!

If a guy is dead, I'll probably switch 'em - - if he's on the 15 day DL, or slumping, I'll probably ride it out. Basically, I will not micro-manage - as many owners do.
