Two-parter this time...
Who was the first African-American to assume managerial duties during a game and who was thrown out to allow this to happen?

A guess here. Ellie Hendricks taking over for Earl Weaver

Nope, not Elrod. Elrod was still a player at the time this first occured.

I can't remember the facts on this. It seems like Buck O'Neill was a part of the Cubs College of Coaches but wasn't permitted to be manager, but one them got himself thrown out of a game and appointed O'Neill to finish for him.

I can't seem to find it either. I'll keep looking.

You've got the right team, but I haven't found info that he took over as manager in the college during a game...

He did sign the guy that did do this though.

The guy who took over as manager is well known in Chicago and needs no introduction...a jovial three word phrase will do just fine thank you. :)

The guy he replaced is famous in New York for setting up one of the most dramatic homers ever...and he sort of has an ironic nickname for a question like this...

Ernie Banks replacing Whitey Lockman in a 1973 contest.

That's what I was looking for.
