Or, is this sinking as low as stuff like SI and Maxim?

You missed the "New England Journal of Medicine - Cadaver Swimsuit edition". And I thought that full-figured models were back in.

I'd heard about this. I figured they were just going to make all the native types start wearing bikinis. :)

I couldn't believe it when I heard about this. I understand that it's tough to succeed in the mag market these days, but I didn't think they'd sink this low.

I don't subscribe to it, but I look at it at work. To be honest, I think the quality has slipped, and its reputation is better than the product.

It's like Esquire without the occasional good article. The cover is almost always a bikini-clad or similarly-dressed young woman, and the substance of the articles makes Entertainment Weekly read like Foreign Affairs.

the quality hasn't really changed but the focus has...in an attempt to bolster the circulation. by the way, NG World, which was the kids magazine, changed it's name to Kids and circulation went up like 50% - they're always looking for ways to make money. the head of the NG society came over from Time-Warner or something. it's not your father's NG anymore

You hate to see legends change.

 please tell me that's a parody! I can't believe NG would stoop to this, even if they've been haemorrhaging subscribers.

mr. satchel and I have actually been thinking about subscribing, because I love poring over the wonderful maps. This makes me hesitate though; I don't want them to treat me as a data point that responded positively to this new marketing effort ... :(

No parody, unfortunately. I'm with you on the maps, which were always what I looked forward to every month.

Hopefully this isn't a trend. It would be a shame.

FYI - it's a special issue you have to buy at the newsstand

the cover is somewhat of a tease, the issue has pictures of beaches, swimmers, etc from 1900 to today.

That makes it better.
