What will be the most significant (non-baseball) events of this calendar year?
I'd really like to hear what everyone thinks will happen around the globe. What will be the biggest news stories of this year? Nothing is off limits, since these are just opinionated forecasts (if that's okay with you, NS Creator).
Okay, okay -- I'll start.
1) The U.S. will NOT attack Iraq in 2003. UN weapons inspectors will remain, forming an effective human shield throughout the Summer. The U.N. inspectors will pull out during the Summer, but the U.S. still will not attack through December.
1A) Iraq WILL knock down at least one of our carrier-based fighter aircraft this Fall. This will result in much name-calling in the U.N. but will not immediately result in a "Gulf of Tonkin" type resolution.
2) North Korea will partially succeed in having sanctions against it lifted. The U.N. will send a partial inspection team into North Korea by year's end.
