8) Barry Bonds watch--Bonds hit #73 and #567 of his career.

Bonds SLG--.863, 1st all time (Ruth--.847, 1920; .846, 1921--no one else was ever over .800)
Bonds OBA--.515, 1st for modern day NL (Hornsby--.507, 1924; John McGraw--.547, 1899), 6th all time (modern day)
Bonds OPS--1.379, new major league record
Bonds BB--177, new major league record

I am crediting Bonds with setting a new major league record. Ruth's record was 1.379 and you need to expand the numbers out to 5 decimal places to determine who was higher. Ruth would prevail by a 1.3791-1.3785 margin.

However, in 1920, SF were credited as SACs and since SF were not kept separately, they aren't counted in OPS. Ruth had 5 "sacrifices" in 1920 and if even 1 of them had actually been a SF, that would be enough for Bonds to overtake him.

Retrosheet does not have Ruth's complete day by day record for that season, yet, but they have over 2/3 of that season for him. They have the data for 2 of his 5 sacrifices and both of those were actually SFs.

Therefore, I am crediting Ruth with 2 SFs for that year, which knocks his OPS down to 1.377 and gives Bonds the record.

Bonds also has unofficial totals of 176 RCAA and 167 RCAP, which would break Ruth's records of 166 and 151, respectively, both set in 1921. Meanwhile, his .916 unofficial OWP would rank 2nd to Mantle's .917, set in 1957. I will have the official numbers sometime this week.

Bonds has already been inducted into Baseball Immortals and has an area at

9) Rickey Henderson reached 3000 hits. Henderson doubled off Rockies P John Thomson in the bottom of the 1st.

10) Tony Gwynn grounded to short, as a pinch hitter in the 9th, in his final game.

11) Sammy Sosa hit his 450th career HR.

12) Jeff Bagwell passed Frank Thomas and George Foster into 61st place on the all time HR list, with 349.

13) Jay Buhner passed Larry Walker into 85th place on the all time HR list, with 310.

I wouldn't guess without knowing where he's going to play and who'll be hitting behind him, but I think it's safe to suggest an OBP of .430 + and a SLG of .600+

No guess on the HR total? How about a guess on the under/over? Under 75 and over 50?

BuzzBuzzard

Over 50 if he plays home games at PacBell, Enron, Yankee Stadium or Coors Field. Under 50 if elsewhere.

Don't think he could hit 50 at Wrigley, Fenway, Miller Park, Camden, or the Homerdome in Minny?

Didn't think through all the stadiums. I still stand by the fact he never 50 HR before.

Bonds'll get his 50 if he plays home games in Coors. But, don't forget he'll also get to play another 81 games on the road.
