How Fox Network can be broadcasting the NY Giants game right now is beyond me.

Lemme guess, you're a Jets' fan, no? :D
Don't worry, plenty of channels around to cover the news.

Don't worry, plenty of channels around to cover the news. Nothing to do with what fan I am. 30 minutes into the attack Fox should not have been broadcasting football. The number of other channels broadcasting the news is hardly the issue. The Fox priorities are up their ass, I don't care what lame excuse they come up with. It is entirely inexcusable.

We disagree a lot. ;) That's why I enjoy your posts so much.
A. It was not 30 minutes into the attack. The attack was this AM, the news didn't start to break until mid-day.
B. Should the Cartoon Channel have broken into the news too? No. So, is FOX any different than the Cartoon Channel - - not really, it's ENTERTAINMENT programming, in this case, football. They were under no obligation to break to the news. Want news? Watch CNN, MSNBC or FOX NEWS.
CBS, who ran the story around 1 PM, managed to cut away to the Jet game when that game started.
We were watching CBS around 1 PM, and checked many other channels around that time. Very few broke to the story - - very very few. To single out FOX is wrong.

A. It was 20 minutes into the attack. The bombs started falling at 12:30 pm ET. Don't watch the cartoon network if you want factual information.
B. CBS did go to the Jets game and presumably something even before that, but by 4:00, there was little new news to report. Not saying I agree with that decision either, but at least there had been time for the dust to settle, so to speak.
C. I am harping on Fox because I was flipping news channel to news channel and CBS and ABC were covering the war, not football. They ALL broke to the story and stayed there for some time, well after 1:00.
Fox is a network programmer, not an entertainment programmer. They made a mistake in going to the game.
I sort of agree with you, Buzz. But Fox doesn't have it's own news programming like the 3 majors and like Net said, they have Fox News, which did have continuous coverage. Maybe it was in poor judgement, but I bet a lot of people were happy they didn't interrupt the game. (Sorry to say.)
Quite frankly, I don't believe the American public needs minute by minute coverage...the same people we're trying to defeat get CNN, too, and the President said yesterday that he's even limiting what he tells congress because we've got leaks there, too. We're on a need to know basis at this point. Now excuse me while I go bury my head in the sand. (Couldn't resist that one, either! Sorry!) ;)

One thing to keep in mind, too. We all have cable and the luxury of getting to the all-news channels. How many millions of people in the tri-state are don't?

I did not give MLB enough credit. I would have never guessed they would preempt the game. MLB gets an A+.

Then, they have a dish. Maybe only 5% of the people are still living on rabbit ears.

Over two-thirds of homes have cable TV a/o May 2001. (http://www.ncta.com/pdf_files/A-CableFacts.pdf) Most of the remaining 1/3 have dishes - - drive down any street and look at a roof or two. I was in the Bronx the other day - - in a low income section, and still saw about 15 dishes on one very run down building.
