There's a great one on The Fellowship of the Rings special edition, a redone council of Elronds scene.
I don't go looking for Easter Eggs, but I have friends that do and they tell me where they are.

"easter egg" is a term frequently used in reference to computer programs for little cute tidbits or in-jokes thrown in by the programmers. They are not documented and are present merely to give the user a smile when she stumbles across them accidentally.
One example that pops to mind was in a data analysis program I used when I was a graduate student, called SigmaPlot. On holidays, the program's logo, displayed in a corner of the screen when you used the program, would change to a thematic image - like a pumpkin on halloween.
Another example I read about recently in the game Civilization III - on Elvis Presley's birthday, one of the units in the game displayed as a little Elvis character instead of its usual character.
I guess DVD easter eggs are similar - little treats added to the disc that aren't listed on the box, so you have to go looking for them, or stumble across them.

Now that I know what this is.....I feel the same way as you do. Thanks Satch for the explaination.
Max-
Please, put some ears on your child, gather the kids in the neighborhood and some cousins and hide some plastic eggs. If the ages vary.....send the little ones first, have the oldest one count out his age, send the next one, have the second oldest count out his age......it is a lot of fun!!!!

I don't go looking for Easter Eggs, but I have friends that do and they tell me where they are. I think Easter Eggs are pretty cool, and generally have placed a few such gimcracks in my software going back 15 or more years. I don't know if they had the name Easter Eggs then. That said, I never go looking for them.
However, now that you've mentioned it, how do I get at the LOTR scene, JamesI? That sounds interesting.

Its on the first cd, at least the one I found is, there could be more.
Go to select a scene. Click on the last group 25-27. Click down on your remote to #27. Then down again. Somethign will lit up next to the words new scene. Click that. If ny friend find more on the dvd, I'll pass them along!

There are also web sites that collect the easter eggs on dvds, and list them. Do a web search for "easter eggs" and you'll find some of them.

Sometimes they are interesting on DVD but I find that the Video Game ones are a little more clever. I'll have to check out that Civ III one when Elvis's birthday comes again.
