It's generally agreed upon that Ted Williams holds the record for most consecutive games reaching base at 84. However, who holds the NL record for this feat? How many straight games did he reach?

As a hint, he did it pre-1900. This player was one of the best at getting on base in NL history.

Wee Willie Keeler?

No, but Keeler and this player played in almost the same years...

No, but your guesses are very close. This guy holds the NL record for career OBP.

That can only be Billy Hamilton!

It sure is!
Hamillton started the 1893 season by reaching base someway or another in 71 straight games, then went 0-for-4, and reached in 31 straight more after that. Out of 133 games that season, he reached somehow in 130 of them!

I should know the answer to this, but does "reached on error" or "fielder's choice" or "force out" keep the streak alive?

I believe that Williams's streak is just hits, walks, and HBP. But I was using logs from the HOF, and I figured out whether he got on base by 1 of several ways:
The logs don't list HBP, so I couldn't go by that.
If he got a hit, obviously, that's one way.
If he got a walk, that's another one, too.
If he had a stolen base, he had to've gotten on base to steal it, so that's one.
If he scored a run, then that's another way, too.

For the games where he didn't have a walk or hit, but a run or steal (there were about 2 of them), I kept the streak alive.
I decided that, no matter how, he did get on base, so I should keep the streak going.....
I was hoping no one would ask that question! :)
I suppose it just depends on whether you consider the streak to go on or not if he got someone else out on his team (like by forceout) in order for him to get on.
