During the broadcast of a Yankee game Phil Rizzuto expressed surprise about a certain person having ever been a Yankee manager. Who was the person and what was unusual about Phil's recollection.

Wild guess--Martin, because he had been manager 5 times?

I have no idea. But I'll guess that the person he mentioned had NEVER managed the Yankees

The personin question was a Yankee manager but it wasn't Martin.

How about Showalter because he was the current manager when Rizzuto said it?

Not Buck. This guy is not a current manager.

I'm guessing it was a manager the Scooter palyed for. Casey Stengel, or Bucky Harris?

It is a manager Rizuto played for (thus the malaprop) but it wasn't Harris or Stengel.

that leaves Johnny Neun, who managed 14 games in 1946

It was Johnny Neunn about who Rizzuto expressed surprise at being a Yankee Manager.

You had me scratching my head for an answer. I guess I don't understand what the malaprop is. Is it how Nuenn's name is pronounced, which I'm not aware of?

It's that Rizzuto played for him, but then was surprised to hear that he'd ever been a manager.

Don't worry RichG. It's not you. Scooter's lapse wasn't a malaprop.

Thanks for clearing it up, I was looking for a malaprop. Yankee fans have told me Rizzuto was a pretty funny guy.
