What kind of a team can you make from players born on your birthday? You can get a list at http://www.baseball-reference.com/ . I got the idea from Aaron Gleeman at http://baseballblog.blogspot.com/
My birthday is January 10. I have two Hall of Famers, one is manager Harry Wright. The other is Stretch, Willie McCovey. I cheated a little, putting Adam Kennedy at 3B, since I already had all-star-level Del Pratt to play 2B and no one to play third. My OF stinks.
Starters:
C Johnny Peacock
1B Willie McCovey
2B Del Pratt
SS George Strickland
3B Adam Kennedy
LF Jim Lindeman
CF Chick Stahl
RF Bob Brower
Bench: C Tom Dolan, IF Jack Dittmer, Mario Diaz
SP: Jim O'Toole, Rich Dotson, Bill Swift (1950's version), Chuck Dobson, Cliff Chambers
RP: Larry Hardy, Rick Bauer, Ted Bowsfield, George Pearce, Milt Watson

My group (02/06) just sucks, except that some guy named Ruth would be one of my corner outfielders.

I think my Jan. 10 boys can take gyb's Nov. 13 team. Can anyone do better?

Would you believe a day where nobody has been born with more than 9 games at 1B? If these guys scored 350 runs in a season, it'd be a miracle...

I got SO depressed by my birthday, that I had to do my father's birthday of March 12. A much better Home Run Derby team, but minimal pitching.

Okay, for 22 June:
C - Ron Hodges
2B - Jake Wood
OF - Russ Snyder, Faye Throneberry, George Puccinelli
SP - Carl Hubbell, Walt Masterson
RP - Dave Tomlin, Greg Booker, Roy Thomas, Esteban Yan
I couldn't find anyone even remotely respectable for the remaining spots.

Pssst, c21....push Murphy to 1B so you can get Callison in the lineup. That will make you clearly ahead.

Sorry, but the July 7th group stinks too. I do have Satchel Paige and Billy Herman, plus a guy who threw a perfect game - Len Barker - but otherwise Chuck Knoblauch is my best player. Of course, there is the notable fact that the most notable player for my favorite team who shares my last name - White - also shares my birthday. That would be Sammy White. This, of course, prompted me to name my first born son Sam. (Hey, I have an understading wife.) Obscure but true.

I actually did this yesterday entirely independent of this thread. I will take the July 25th team to out-suck any other day, might be good in the dead ball era, but since then well I have Ed Sprague batting cleanup.

My Anniversary Team!

01-10-2003, 09:42 AM
My team has some promise, but I'll need Smed's help to fill out the roster as there seem to be a whole lot of old-timers and I don't have the time to investigate all their stats right now. So here's the beginning of the roster:
My starting rotation got a big upgrade in the last couple of years - Barry Zito is my ace, followed by Mike Sirotka and Jose Rijo.
I have a promising young prospect in the 'pen in Jack Cressend.
My lineup only contains Johnny Roseboro at catcher and two outfielders, Lyle Mouton and Dusty Rhodes. But as I said I didn't read the stats of all the players I wasn't familiar with, just some.
Oh - and I get Bobby V as my manager!

Nov. 18 -
I have Mauch - which I need with the little ball guys I have.
I have Gary Sheffield, Jamie Moyer, Tom Gordon, David Ortiz, Roy Sievers, Jack Coombs, Deacon McGuire and (ugh) Dante Bichette.
But then I have a team full of Jay Hook, Scott Hemond, Dan Briggs, Mike Felder, Jeff Heathcock, Steve Henderson, Luis Pujols and Mark Petkovsek.
But since I have Clay Bellinger, we'll win the series!
