Jackasses!

I found this article on my homepage -- http://www.dailyrotten.com (the ONLY source for good news stories, IMO).

Bottom line: this is natural selection at its finest, and if MY 13-year-old every tries it, it won't be the flames that kill him!

I love the line, "Something went wrong."

On Friday night, after a high school football game, Kelvin Wu and four of his friends tried to re-create a stunt that they'd seen on the MTV show "Jackass."

Kelvin, 15, soaked his shirt in alcohol, and -- as his friends videotaped the prank -- the Bellevue teenager set himself on fire.

Something went wrong.

And yesterday, Kelvin was at the burn ward at Harborview Medical Center with first-degree burns to his face, arms and torso.

"He apparently left too much alcohol on his shirt," said Kelvin's father, Michael Wu. "He thought it would just burn off like in the 'Jackass' show."

In January 2001, a 13-year-old boy in Connecticut allowed two friends to pour gasoline on his legs and feet and set him on fire after seeing a similar stunt on television. He suffered second- and third-degree burns.

Later that year, a 16-year-old Kentucky boy was injured as two of his friends hit him with a car as they tried to re-create another of the show's stunts, and in Connecticut, a 19-year-old -- also inspired by the show -- ran through the streets with a chain saw.

Just last week, after seeing the movie "Jackass," a 14-year-old boy was seen running through the streets of San Jose with flames shooting above his head. A police officer sprayed the teenager with a fire extinguisher, and the teen escaped serious injury.

The movie, which premiered Oct. 25 and is in the Top 5, has raked in $42.1 million so far.

That's horrible. Why can't kids stick to the safer Jackass stunts, like giving each other paper cuts between their toes or on their lips?

What's the fun in that?

Apparently, "Jackass" (an aptly named show if ever there was one) left out the all-important ingredient in the alcohol-soaked shirt stunt: water! An alcohol and water mixture allows the alcohol to burn off, but the water helps keep the fabric close to the skin cool enough not to cause injury.

I wouldn't recommend the stunt anyway, because, as they say, sometimes "something goes wrong." Helps if a stagehand is standing nearby with a fire extinguisher, just in case.

I'm not usually one for censorship, but Jackass should not be allowed. Too many kids ignore the warning and try these stunts.

Apparently, "don't try this at home" is code for "show us how stupid you are". If you let them watch cartoons make sure to hide the anvils.

Parental supervision would always be my choice, but too many parents seem to use the tv as a baby sitter.

At least we didn't have to worry about the fire burning his Mensa card.

...they would do them with or without an idiotic show[or spinoff movie] ...this is filed next to the article about the 14 year olds cracking the pentagon security codes...maybe, maybe they learned something...being a tennager right now is so unimaginably more difficult than it was when I wasgrowing up,that I have tremendous sympathy for most teens[even my 2]
