Tough...comparing one era to the next is odious, but the late 80's 49ers were awfully good. Id say the late 80's niners, the 70's steelers close behind, the 90's Cowboys were very very very good

Another case of comparing apples and oranges, but I am partial to the Lombardi Packers of the early 60s. Five titles over a seven year span......

tough call. over a period of years, I'd say the 88-94 49ers and the 70s Steelers.
for a single year, there are lots of teams: the '85 Bears, the Mark Rypien Redskins (Rypien was incredible for one year), and one of the Emmitt-Aikman Cowboys teams are up there.

the 85 bears were the most dominant team ever for one year. of course they went 14-2 the next year and lost in the playoffs with their 4th string QB, Doug Flutie.

Lombardi's Packers. Just a freakin' machine.

That I've seen is the late 80's niners. If you only count teams I've seen play in person then its the early 90's Bills.

Undefeated Dolphins of '72.
One of my favorite teams of all time.

obviously a great team, but they played one of the easiest schedules in NFL history. just learned that a couple of weeks ago.

I really think that parity in the NFL has bunched up the teams in terms of talent. The top teams aren't as dominant as they were, lets say pre 1990 or so. Lose a couple of players and you go from 12-4 to 8-8 or 6-10. Look at the ravens from a few years ago.

The 1985 Bears were awesome. Walter Payton was probably the second best running back ever and that defense was incredible.
For one year, the '85 Bears. How they tanked it against the Fish is still beyond me.
But OMG - I hated the Fridge, Da Bears, Punk McMahon, the egotistical defensive coordinator (no name shall be mentioned) and the associated BS. Awesome team though. Always wondered if Payton and Singletary sat in the locker room just shaking their heads.

If you could meld the '84 Chargers with the '85 Bears you would have the best team ever.
The early '80's Chargers were, to me, the most exciting teams to follow.

Best I've personally seen?
The 12-4 1986 Browns.
The damn Elway "Drive" though....

I didn't like the 85 bears. Too many egos.
The Dolphins were very fired up against the Bears that year. Fighting to keep the teams record.

You are being a bit tough on the Bears. THe '85 Dolphins, on their best days, may have been the greatest team in NFL history, capable of beating any team. They had about four of those days that year.
Unfortunately, they were a very inconsistant team which seemed to have trouble staying focused, particularly on defense. The Dolphins never should have lost to the Pats in the playoffs.
I think that a Fins-Bears rematch would have resulted in another Fins victory, but we'll never know for sure

My vote has to go to the 96 Packers. Very good in every aspect of the game.

Soooooo hard to compare like this. But, what the heck...
Dominating runs:
'60s Packers
'70s Steelers
'80s 'Niners
'90s Cowboys
The '90s Bills belong in here somewhere, too, along with the '70s Vikings. This might sound odd, but, you have to be very good to lose 4 Super Bowls.
Dominating single seasons:
'72 Dolphins (weak schedule or not, they did it)
'76 Raiders (not often mentioned, but they were very, very good)
'85 Bears (hated 'em, but, man, they were good)
Couldn't possibly pick one.
