Right now I have to believe this Mark Bulger is at least the most effective back up in the league. It sure isn't Lucas for the Dolphins, nor Fasani for Carolina!
Are there any others that come to mind? I really can't think of a super back up that might be able to come in and take over a game?

How about Tommy Maddux? He's turned the Steelers' season around. Heaven help the Steelers if Kordell has to come in again.

Chad Pennington and Tommy Maddox have been pretty good.

If you want to scare the hell out of a Chiefs fan just walk up behind him and say "Todd Collins".

Chad Pennington is a real exciting player. He really took it to the Bolts . Maddox is also a great story. He's given the Steelers what they need . A QB that just makes the plays. That's all they need.
What's "Slash" going to do now? Maybe flanker or DB?

If you can catch any radio stationin Cleveland, you will quickly learn that Kelly Holcombe is the second coming of Otto Graham.

No kidding! I can't believe any sane Browns' fan would dare to boo Couch, hoping that Holcombe will replace him.
The Browns' supporters are almost as bad as those of the Bengals, who believe that their big win over the Texans has turned this franchise around. When you start saying, "Imagine if Kitna had played all year....," then you're not dealing with a great franchise.

I think Pennington and Bulger show that the best QBs come from WV college programs. :D

Hey, the Chiefs are still reeling from Matt Blundin.

Does Pennington really count? I never thought of him as a backup, but instead as the heir apparent to Vinny. I think all Jets fans, and many in the front office, were waiting for something to happen to give Chad his opportunity.
The same could be said now for Tommy Maddox. He's no longer a backup QB, so does he count?
For true backups, I'd think it's between Beuerlein, Charlie Batch and Shaun King.

good point. the knock on pennington wasn't that he was bad, but rather that he wasn't "ready"

Earl Morrall was a backup on the greatest team in NFL history...I say he was pretty good. :)
Best one right now? Based on talent, it's whichever Johnson is not playing in T-Bay. On actual performance...it's gotta be Holcomb. Where did this guy come from anyway?
And don't knock Ray Lucas...he's cool. He just can't play quarterback. :D

Not me. The world is full of one-hit-wonders at QB. Having a good game with the Rams offense is like winning a race full of Chevrolets, when you get the Corvette. Just because you win it doesn't make you the best driver.
Nonetheless, he had a good game.
