I've got the nightly Simpsons re-run on TV. I am inspired to start a Simpsons thread. What Simpsons episode make you laugh like a madman?
For me it is the one where Burns brings in the ringers to play for the plant softball team. Here's the lineup:
C - Mike Scoscia
1B - Don Mattingly
2B - Steve Sax
SS - Ozzie Smith
3B - Wade Boggs
LF - Jose Canseco
CF - Ken Grieffey, Jr.
RF - Darryl Strawberry

Guatemalan Insanity Peppers. Johnny Cash as a coyote. Short-shorts. All in the same episode. There are many worthy contenders, but "Sunrise...sunset...sunrise...sunset...[sun shatters]..."note to self: don't do anything" takes the prize.

Too damn many great episodes to choose from. The Simpsons are one of the greatest TV shows ever put out. Their career value is phenomenal.

When Apu and his wife have their 8 babies. Every time I notice it's on, I try and catch it. "Banana bread! What were you thinking?!"

Don't think I have a real favorite. I like the show, but obviously not to the degree of some on here.

I can't name just one episode but there is a scene that is head and shoulders above them all:
Bart and Homer were playing a boxing video game and after many tries Homer was about to beat Bart. Marge came in and unplugged the game just as Homer was going to knock out Bart. At that point Bart stands up and says " I'd like to take this time to retire from Boxing as the undefeated champion". When he did that I almost soiled my shorts. This very scene had played out in my house about 13 years before!! Classic.

I will dissent here
I think the best use of the Simpsons is in Butterfinger commercials. Beyond that, I have no use for them.

I would say my favorite is the "Lord of the Flies" episode.
My favorite quote is "I'm so hungry I could eat at Arby's". It is a must say in my house every time we think about going out to eat.

The "Flaming Homer" episode is tops in my book.
Followed by "Mr. Plow" and... "Lisa Goes to Washington"
All classics.
I do so miss Lionel Hutz.

last night they played the episode when Homer and Marge's marriage is on the rocks, so Marge demands that they attend a church sponsored marriage retreat. Homer has to decide between catching the General Sherman (a legendary Catfish) and Marge. I'm not even close to being married , but I can still appreciate Revrend Lovejoy's line, "nonsense Homer. A marriage can't be fixed in a few hours... It takes a whole weekend."
However, the greatest single episode is the one where Lisa needs Braces and Homer gets elected as the head of the union so he can fight mr. Burns for the Dental plan. Homer imagining himself as the Godfather, Lisa asking Lenny to play Classical Gas, Mr. Burns crack about 1000 monkeys on 1000 typewriters and soon creating the greatest work of literature known to man.
It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

To the rest of the Simpsons cattle - I'll recognize it as a groundbreaking show, while still disliking at least 2/3 of the episodes I've seen. [ducking and covering and running out the back door with Gyb - hope I don't end up in Sri Lanka or something].
